Conservatives Are Critical
Not only of others, but especially themselves.
This morning, Michelle Malkin offers a post entitled, “No More Cronyism: Bush DHS Nominee Doesn’t Deserve The Job”
In reference to Julie Myers, President Bush’s nominee to head the the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security, Malkin scolds: “Her nomination is a joke. A bad joke.”
When would you (or have you), ever, read a similar criticism, equally candid, of a Democrat or one of their political nominees on any of the leading liberal websites or blogs?
Don’t hold your breath.
Malkin links to a story from the Washington Post, in which she highlights: “Her uncle is Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, the departing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She married Chertoff’s current chief of staff, John F. Wood, on Saturday.”
Coincidence? Malkin doesn’t think so, and she doesn’t mince words either:
“Oh, give me a ^*&%$# break and a half! This nomination is a monumental political and policy blunder in the wake of the Michael Brown/FEMA fiasco. And I can tell you that contrary to the Miss Mary Sunshine White House spokeswoman’s comments, rank-and-file DHS employees and immigration enforcement officials are absolutely livid about Myers’ nomination.”
There’ll surely be more to come on this story.
But back to the question for our liberal counterparts and the issue of self-policing.
When it comes to scrutinizing questionable behavior, it appears liberals turn a blind eye to their own. Or has anyone of them spoken out against Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Barba Boxer, Kathy Blanco, Ray Nagin, Jessie Jackson or Louis Farrakhan?
Some may say it’s not the same thing. But it is. Bad behavior should never count as political strategy, and we’ve seen plenty from these characters.
Liberals commonly like to use the phrase “marching in lockstep” when referring to Republicans. It’s a nice rhetorical device as it implies some devious and uniform “vast rightwing conspiracy” and, conveniently, it also draws in some fascist imagery.
It only fails the merit of being true. Malkin makes the point.

(Editor’s note: Is the photo on Malkin’s site the same woman on Schluessel’s? Hardly looks like “Barbie,” brunette or otherwise)
