Still No Connection?

I wonder how Democrats will react when documented proof that UBL “sought to conduct “joint operations” with Saddam Hussein’s regime five years before the 9/11 attacks, and was given the green light by the Iraqi dictator.” I suspect that they’ll ignore it as best they can and hope that their media allies move to the next subject as quickly as possible.

“We discussed with [bin Laden] his organization. He requested the broadcast of the speeches of Sheikh Sulayman al-Uda [who has influence within Saudi Arabia and outside due to being a well known religious and influential personality] and to designate a program for them through the broadcast directed inside Iraq, and to perform joint operations against the foreign forces in the land of Hijaz [Saudi Arabia].”

Don’t look now but I think that’s another embarassment for the 9/11 ‘Omission’. And for Democrats. Let’s see how much of this gets front page coverage. I’m not holding my breath. Instead, I’m digging into a pile of transcripts of released tape conversations. Check back often because we’ll have a ton of quotes from these meetings. You won’t want to miss them.

The bottom line is that this is just part of the proof that supposedly secular goverments got along with radical extremists. The common ground, it seems, is a deep-seeded hatred of America and an extremism that went unchecked until the Bush Doctrine was enunciated and implemented.

The document goes on to note that “the Honorable Presidency was informed of the details of the meeting in our letter 370 on March 4, 1995.” The document indicates that Saddam personally granted bin Laden’s request for help with propaganda broadcasts and instructed his agents “to develop the relationship [with bin Laden] and the cooperation between the two sides to see what other doors of cooperation and agreement open up.” The 1996 Iraqi intelligence document goes on to report: “Currently we are working to invigorate this relationship through a new channel in light of his present location [Afghanistan].”

Anyone want to bet that Democrats will ask for a meeting with President Bush to apologize for being certain that a UBL-Saddam connection didn’t exist? I don’t either.

Not only is Newsmax itself a joke, but even what they quote in this article, is itself a joke.

A snippet from this article, with my statements in brackets:

“The document indicates[i.e. doesn't even directly state] that Saddam [who isn't even named directly by the document] personally granted bin Laden’s request for help with propaganda broadcasts [a) in other words, not anything involving tactical cooperation, terrorist training, intelligence sharing, WMD's, or anything involving any sort of military or terrorist threat, b) as stated elsewhere in the Newsmax article, only within Saudi Arabia]and instructed his agents “to develop the relationship [with bin Laden] and the cooperation between the two sides to see what other doors of cooperation and agreement open up.

After this date, we know what opened up - Bin Laden personally attacked and condemned Saddam Hussein as a traitor to Islam, and Saddam had at least one Al Qaeda emissary within his country shot to death - not a great sign of united cooperation.

I wish that you guys invested this amount of effort and creativity into examining your leaders.

Posted to insert a missing tag - my apologies.

the denial and fit throwing of the left will be great to watch unfold as these docs come out, perfect example above from jim
the story is also available at the original website, but let me guess, the docs are all fakes right?

  4. jim Says:

i see. so pointing out that an article is empty and without facts, is now denial and fit-throwing.

thanks for clarifying that mark. :) see you in 2006.

whats not factual. you said newsmax is a joke, and just discussed what was in the story , what particular part of the story isn’t true?

  6. jim Says:

First, Newsmax is a blatantly right-wing partisan newspaper. That’s an opinion, and we can agree to disagree there, I guess, but I honestly wonder how you can think that Newsmax has no bias.

Second, I didn’t state that Newsmax lied. I stated the article is empty of relevant facts. All it basically says is that Saddam MAY have at one time been contacted by SOMEONE in Al Qaeda about helping them with propaganda - said propaganda to be broadcast in Saudi Arabia.

Despite how it hints, the article does not even suggest any real evidence that Saddam and Bin Laden worked together at all directly, let alone on anything except propaganda.

So the article also does not in any way counter the well-known and documented animosity between Saddam Hussein, an anti-religious dictator in the Stalin mold, and Bin Laden, an Islamic fundamentalist. Nor does it explain Bin Laden’s public call to depose Saddam Hussein as an enemy. Which is not ever something you do to an ally.

But besides that, it’s a great article.
