“Religion of Peace” (Case Study #1115): Iraqi Athletes Killed For Wearing Shorts
AP reports: “An Iraqi tennis coach and two of his players were shot to death this week in Baghdad because they were wearing shorts, authorities said Saturday, reporting the latest in a series of recent attacks attributed to Islamic extremists.”
And that, as one might say, is the long and short of it.
In the Baghdad incident, gunmen stopped a car carrying the Sunni Arab coach and two Shiite players, asked them to step out and then shot them, said Manham Kubba secretary-general of the Iraqi Tennis Union.
Extremists had distributed leaflets warning people in the mostly Sunni neighborhoods of Saidiyah and Ghazaliyah warning people not to wear shorts, police said.
“Wearing shorts by youth are prohibited because it violates the principals of Islamic religion when showing forbidden parts of the body. Also women should wear the veil,” the leaflets said.
No one claimed responsibility for the slayings, which come amid worries that Islamic extremism is spreading in the war-torn country.
Sunni cleric Eid al-Zoubayi denounced the attack.
“Islamic religion is an easy religion and it allows wearing sport shorts as long as they don’t show the forbidden parts of the body, so the acts that are targeting the sport are criminal,” he said.
If that’s a denouncement, we’re having a hard time recognizing the indignation. Where’s the public outrage? Why don’t people take to the streets and riot? Or protest against the senseless violence? Oh yeah. There are no cartoons.
But let this be a reminder: We’re dealing with blood-thirsty Islamic fanatics. These are terrorists.
And that’s what we’re fighting against.

Actually Islam as a religion of peace is a misnomer. The definition literally is ‘submission.’ However, Muslims will actually tell you that Islam is a religion of peace – only if you wear long pants of course. If you where shorts, Islam no longer stands for peace. Geeesh, What happens when its 105 Degrees in the desert?

This is disgusting. Iraqis deserve better than this.
Yet another good reason for the US to have gone into Iraq and squashed Saddam and his sons. And yet another good reason to have gone to Afghanistan to squash the Taliban.

The US has turned Iraq into a bloody chaotic lawless mess, just like they did in Afghanistan.
This is the kind of stuff that comes back to haunt countries in the form of planes being flown into buildings.

Gosh It sounds like Ron Jeremy (comment #4) has some issues. Maybe he would profit from an anger management course.
I think too many people are ignorant or try real hard to ignore the truth of the ultimate goals of the terrorists.
Will they be satisfied when no one on their street wears shorts? In their neighborhood? In their city? In their country? On their continent? In the world?
Even if every one in the world quit wearing shorts they would come up with a new rule that gives them the opportunity to kill. They truly are animals.
The problems with terrorists will not be solved until the ‘good’ Muslums rise up, shake off their fears, and deal with these murderers in their own neighborhoods.
The good news is that many ‘good’ Muslums in Iraq are now reporting terrorists and weapon caches to the Iraqi police forces.
