Remember Pope Benedict’s comment last week in which he quoted a 14th century Byzantine emperor? He quote cited was:
“I quote, ‘Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.”
Well, today Pope Benedict offered an apology, sort of, to the mad Muslims of the world who are burning things down and killing Christians until they get the proper respect they deserve.
“I am deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address at the University of Regensburg, which were considered offensive to the sensibility of Muslims.
“These in fact were a quotation from a medieval text, which do not in any way express my personal thought. I hope this serves to appease hearts and to clarify the true meaning of my address, which in its totality was and is an invitation to frank and sincere dialogue, with mutual respect.”
Mohammed el-Sayed Habib, deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood: “The pope’s comments that downplayed his earlier remarks are not enough. We will not accept anything less than an apology.”
Mehmet Aydin, Turkey’s State Minister: “You either have to say this ‘I’m sorry’ in a proper way or not say it at all. Are you sorry for saying such a thing or because of its consequences?”
Mahmoud Ashour, former deputy of Cairo’s Al-Azhar Mosque, the Sunni Arab world’s most powerful institution: “It is not enough. He should apologize because he insulted the beliefs of Islam. He must apologize in a frank way and say he made a mistake.”
Mohammed al-Nujeimi, professor of Judicial and Islamic Studies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: “The pope does not want to apologize. He is evading apology and what he said today is a repetition of his previous statement.”
Ahmad Khatami, Muslim cleric: “If the pope does not apologize, Muslims’ anger will continue until he becomes remorseful. He should go to clerics and sit and learn about Islam.”
No wonder the Pope stuck to his guns.
Pope Benedict’s “apology” brings to mind the “apology” of Senator Dick Durbin in June 2005, who compared US soldiers at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis and Pol Pot:
“If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of our — their own prisoners.”
Durbin’s “apology”:
“I am sorry if anything I said caused any offense or pain to those who have such bitter memories of the Holocaust, the greatest moral tragedy of our time. I am also sorry if anything I said cast a negative light on our fine men and women in the military…”
The difference being that Durbin sided with Islamofascists who committed acts of violence. The Pope did the opposite.

How can the Pope possibly state that Islamists are intolerant and violent?

Seems to me the Muslim leaders quoted are awfully close to saying “If you don’t give us exactly the apology we wish, there are those who are going to burn and destroy and kill until you do.”
Now, I wonder why the Pope woulda said what he did in the first place, considering the reaction of Muslims all over the world. Gosh, do you think he may have hit a nerve or something, calling it like it is?

No such thing as a Conservative Californian. Stop fooling yourselves and move. California is nothing more than a breeding ground for Liberals.
