The Religion of Peace does not have a word for “democracy,” nor does Arabic. They “borrow” the word from French. We have to decide how to best help the Iraqi’s make the best deal for themselves they can. I emphasize “for themselves” because they have to live with it. My guess is some sort of Swiss canton system will eventually emerge. Local autonomy with federal control of defense, foreign affairs, and a final say in the distribution of the oil wealth. Anything else lets the Iranians run things at the end of the day.

Benn, this is the last time I will address you, period.

No Republican would say we lost in 2000, 2002 or 2004. Your comment is absurd.

I spoke with an Iraqi friend a few days ago who told me that Al-Maliki is a “very good man” but there are some people in his elected cabinet who support Iran, and IRAN’s interference is the problem. Al-Maliki is doing his best in a very complex situation and while it doesn’t look to us Americans sitting in our living room watching CNN like he’s doing a good job, if you don’t have a comphrensive understanding of the sects and history of Iraq, coupled with the root of the problem (an violent movement supported and financed by Iran), along with some other issues, you simply will not get it.

When Donald Rumsfeld said yesterday this is a very misunderstood and complex war, he wasn’t kidding. Most Americans simply do not understand the depth and intricacy of this mission in Iraq. It is not a failure nor will it be UNLESS we pull out before Iraq is stabilized.

If America’s troubled past with Civil Wars, unpopular president’s, assassinations, slavery, violence and over 11 years to produce a Constitution, were judged as ruthlessly as Iraq is being judged, we would not have made it. These Iraqis are worth the trouble, as is that part of the Middle East. If the soldiers who are willing to do the work, not armchair quarterback, continue to reenlist and volunteer to go back to Iraq, don’t you think they do so for a REASON?

First of all I am a Republican, Amy. We ALL lost in 2000, 2002, 2004….
You yourself said that Al-Maliki is an “excellent” choice to help run the government in Iraq. I believe you are the one that is periodically cluless, Amy. I played football in college (I was not a QB but a DB) I don’t remember there being an armchair. I also served in the military as did my father and grandfather. No armcahir QBs in my family. You write a blog and have babies, Amy. You are an “activist” wife and a mother, That’s it. That is your “Occupation” You are the definition of an armchair QB, Amy.
