Jimmy Carter Strikes Again

Jimmy Carter’s at it again, this time criticizing President Bush because he isn’t doing anything to bring Hamas and Fatah together. This Reuters article provides a glimpse into Carter’s warped mind.

Carter, on a visit to Dublin, said the United States and Israel had done “everything they could to prevent accommodation between Hamas and Fatah”. “Lately, the United States has been giving military aid to Fatah in order to conquer Hamas in Gaza,” Carter told reporters after addressing a human rights forum in Dublin.

I doubt that Carter has noticed or cares about this but Hamas started a civil war against Fatah. For that matter, I’d doubt that he’s noticed that Hamas hates Israel and wants to destroy them. Given those facts, I don’t see why Israel and the United States shouldn’t be doing everything it can, short of cutting off food and other life support items, to undermine Hamas.

“Fatah could not prevail because of the fervent commitment of some of the Hamas fighters and because of their discipline,” he added.

That sounds like he’s complimenting Hamas’ terrorists, doesn’t it? And they wonder why he’s considered the worst president of the twentieth century and the worst ex-president of the twentieth century?

Carter, who brokered the Camp David accords between Israel and Egypt in 1978, said moves to give Palestinians assistance in the West Bank was an attempt to “reward them”, while continuing to “punish” the 1.5 million aid-dependent Palestinians in Gaza. “This effort to divide Palestine into two peoples now, I think it is a step in the wrong direction,” Carter said. “There is no effort being made outside to bring the two together.”

Mr. Carter, Hamas is a terrorist organization that isn’t interested in ‘coming together’. They’re interested in dominance and destruction. The reason why there “is no effort…to bring the two together” is because we want to see Hamas devastated. We aren’t interested in appeasing murderous behavior nor should we be. As for his statement that we’re rewarding Fatah while punishing Hamas, I’d simply say this: It isn’t wise to reward murderous behavior. Any competent parent will tell you that they reward children for their good behavior and discipline their children for their bad behavior.

That shouldn’t be a difficult concept for Carter to grasp but it’s obvious that it is.

President Carter made peace between Egypt and Israel. Where did President Bush make peace?

It’s a shame to see this moronic blog promulgated throughout the internet. Reuters was carrying this earlier, and that lessens the esteem in which I hold them.

This is the very first time I have ever heard anyone characterize Jimmy Carter as anything other than a good ex-president. I seriously doubt that George Bush will do any charitable work, unlike his father or former President Clinton. It sounds like you’re pulling that right out of the air.

As for Carter’s opinion on the Middle East, the fact that he concentrated on that region and managed successful and long-term diplomacy says a great deal. As for his opinion on the Palestinian/Israeli debate, he’s researched and written a book on it. This is another set of tasks I doubt Bush will attempt.

Education, reasoning, and an impassioned pursuit of peace are not for everyone; it appears you share that trait with George W. Bush. How unfortunate for us all.

(By the way, that’s an ad hominem attack, just like you used on Carter. It doesn’t really address the idea, does it?)

  5. Darren Says:

I think the author is flaming Carter to detract from GW being possibly the worst president in recent history. He had to set the “way-back” machine to 1977 to do it. I don’t think it really works though. What will the legacy of GW be? “We forfeited our liberty for security?”

  6. Kalifornia Kafir Says:

“President Carter made peace between Egypt and Israel.” A tentative peace at best. Let’s see what happens with the Muslim Brotherhood in ascendancy in Egypt and Hamas in control of the Philadelphia Corridor between Gaza and Egypt.

“This is the very first time I have ever heard anyone characterize Jimmy Carter as anything other than a good ex-president.” Maybe you should read news sources/articles/blogs by folks other than Carter/Liberal sycophants. That you would post something like this demonstrates how ignorant you are of reality–whether it’s willful ignorance or simply ignorance as bliss, only you can say.

The U.S. would not have half the diplomatic problems with the Middle East that we have today if it had not been for Carter, who by helping to overthrow the Shah of Iran started the reign of the radical mullahs. Carter now is intent on perpetuating his failed foreign policy by continuing to mollycoddle murdering thugs in Palestine.

P.S. - Why don’t you argue Carter’s strengths and weaknesses rather than resort to ad hominem attacks on George Bush?

  7. Carlos Says:

Thank you, Kalifornia. I was going to respond, but figured it would be like talking to a box of rocks. You know, the “Don’t bother me with reality. I’m happy as a clam living in my rose-shaded world and disturbing facts bother me no end.”

  8. Darren Says:

Oh yes, blame the Democrats for everything that’s troubling the Republicans.

Egypt and Israel haven’t fought for what, almost thirty years? Egypt isn’t the problem, it’s Iran that the problem. Who created the problem?

Lets not forget that the Republicans overthrew a democratically elected government of Iran to install the Shah, “so we could get the oil.” Maybe that’s why they are pissed huh? Ask your pal Ron Paul, at least he’s honest about it.

Let’s see who else? Oh Saddam! The Republicans put him there to get the oil too! I’d be pissed if I was an Iraqi.

This all started out as an ad horrheim attack on President Carter, which is what the Republicans do best. Notice that I didn’t call anybody ignorant. You’re pointing fingers at everybody else to detract from GW’s failures.

I did notice that you want to “murder” the murdering thugs. Clearly the thugs are learning their lesson (not really). Seems to me like the whole region is about to go up in flames and you’ll be blaming President Carter. Nice!

  9. Kalifornia Kafir Says:

That’s odd Darren, but I didn’t mention the word “Democrat” once in my post. Stop projecting your “feelings” onto me, darling.

  12. TheFrog Says:

The Shah of Iran was a brutal dictator responsible for the same exact behavior that the paleocons considered grounds for the overthrow of Saddam. Now he’s their hero?
Hamas was elected in an uncontestedly legitimate election and Israel, the US and EU illegally stole the Palestinians tax money to destabilize the country. So much for spreading democracy.
My question: Why does anyone listen to these paleocon bloggers?

  13. Kalifornia Kafir Says:

Paleocon definition from Wikipedia [and I would be proud to call myself one, but I don't subscribe to any one party line]:

“Paleoconservatism (sometimes shortened to paleo or paleocon when the context is clear) is an anti-communist and anti-authoritarian[1] right wing movement based primarily in the United States that stresses tradition, civil society and classical federalism, along with familial, religious, regional, national and Western identity.[2] Chilton Williamson, Jr. describes paleoconservatism as “the expression of rootedness: a sense of place and of history, a sense of self derived from forebears, kin, and culture — an identity that is both collective and personal.”[3] Paleoconservativism is not expressed as an ideology and its adherents do not necessarily subscribe to any one party line.[4]“

  14. Darren Says:

Neocon, Paleocon whatever. You separate yourself from the Republicans by definition only. You’re biased against Carter and you’re a pro-Bush (Necon, Palecon, Whatever-con). Okie Dokie…

Clearly the facts are irrelevant to you and the only thing you can do is quote definitions from Wikipedia and call people ignorant.

  15. Kalifornia Kafir Says:

Yes, I am biased against Carter. For good reason. To my knowledge, I never mentioned being pro-Bush, so that’s your biased assumption. Okie dokie, smokie.

Wow. This has been a very interesting exchange. I’ve never seen more than 5 or 6 posts at any one story on this site — usually from the usual suspects. It’s good to see that other folks are paying attention! There’s hope for this blog yet.

  19. Darren Says:

“P.S. - Why don’t you argue Carter’s strengths and weaknesses rather than resort to ad hominem attacks on George Bush?”

You make statements like this and your not pro-Bush? You sound more like a flip-flopper than a con.

Did you see where President Mubarak invited Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian leaders to a peace summit next week? That Egypt sounds as terrible as you say (not really).

Your day in the Sun on Rueters.com is certainly over. This site and blog will now return to irrelevancy. Please try again later, LOL!

remember we also armed saddam vs. iran! arming fatah so they may resist hamas may have same consequences. as i recall hamas won some elections in the area — as the 2nd largest democracy in the world shouldnt we be talking with them any way?
    carter good, gw good
    peace good! killing bad!

  22. Dan Says:

Conservative? Don’t hand me that crap. You folks are a bunch of blood-thirsty, warmongering baby-killers whose loyalty is to the settler-colony of Israel. And by the way, it looks like your colony of Israel is headed down the toilet sooner than I thought; good riddance.

  23. Dragon California Says:

Very interesting interaction here. Its very clear that most of the country is split wide open. There is not much healing going on. Just poking at open wounds.
Personaly…I enjoy President Carter. I think he is an inteligent read. His writing inspires me to devote more time to my family and less time stressing out over the wrongs and cover-ups my country commits every day. Lets face it….The United States Government is very sneeky….on both sides of the fence. No matter who you vote for. The problems in the middle east trace back through 50 years of FAILED forien policy. Democrat and Republican presidents. This policy has made us a very powerfull nation. The most powerfull nation. Rich beyond all messures. But…….Absolute power breeds absolute corruption….Its a Fact!

I think by now even most people who voted for Bush agree we were foolish to invade Iraq…the way we did.

I think probably everyone would agree we invaded out of greed. There argument wasnt that convincing in the begining.
The point is…..When greed is so obvious at the top. It trickels down into all of us. Suddenly we are a nation of greedy, selfish, overweight, backstabbing, drama whores.
Thats how the world see’s us.

Most americans never leave there home state.
Im one of them….so im not bashing…

    I rarely ever leave California…..to pretty here…

  24. Carlos Says:

    Dan,

Could you publish your address so when the Islamofascists get here, they’ll pass your house by, kinda like the angel of Death in the Exodus? I mean, if you really believe that garbage you shouldn’t have any problem with that. Right?

Oh, excuse me. They’re already here, according to that liar GW, but you know you can’t believe a word out of that snake’s mouth.

And, although I have some real problems with the way this administration has screwed around with their “private little war,” I have a much bigger problem being stupid enough to believe it was out of greed. Vengeance, maybe, but greed is too far out for me to believe.

Personal opinion is that nearly every prez, veep, cabinet member and congressional leader, both parties, for the last four decades has been a crawling viper. Including Carter.

  25. JOSEPH BLOE Says:

Why Reuters every allowed a comment from this insanely biased blogger to be posted on their website is beyond my ability to comprehend what goes on in the minds of most editors of the MSM.

This blogger is obviously a highly prejudiced and irrational whacko willing to ignore any and all factual information about a subject on which he has made a presumptive decision based on his emotions rather that his intellect.

Brain washing is a powerful tool used upon the masses.

Stupidity is genetically based…and then culturally supported by the crowd you run with.
