Jackson Casts His Support For Chavez
The enemy of mine enemy is my friend.
Appears to be the new Democratic strategy. AP reports: “The Rev. Jesse Jackson offered support for President Hugo Chavez on Sunday, saying a call for his assassination by a U.S. religious broadcaster was a criminal act and that Washington and Venezuela should work out their differences through diplomacy.” Jackson urged U.S. authorities to take action, and said the U.S. government must choose “diplomacy over any threats of sabotage or isolation or assassination.” Thanks for the advice, Jessay. Really helpful to America’s foreign policy efforts, not only in S. America but across the world. For all the negative headlines over Pat Roberson’s non-diplomatic remarks, why does the media not question Jackson’s motives: Who made him a U.S. ambassador? He’s playing partisan politics by pointing his finger at the U.S. (via President Bush), which only comforts and encourages our enemies. Some would argue that’s more damaging than Robertson’s off-the-cuff comments. Reuters also reports that Jackson declares, “Chavez no threat to region.” And who would argue with that? Chavez must have a lot of respect for Jackson. “There is no evidence that is stated and established that this government is in fact a source of instability,” Jackson told reporters at a news conference. “I hope that we would reduce the rhetoric that exacerbates tensions.” No evidence, huh? Others disagree. “A harsh critic of U.S. President George W. Bush’s foreign policy, Chavez has angered Washington by strengthening ties with anti-U.S. states such as Iran and Cuba. He presents his social reforms as a counterweight to U.S. influence.” So what of Chavez’ anti-U.S. activities? The WeeklyStandard has a good article exposing Chavez’ ties to terrorism, not to mention reports of ties to al-Qaeda. There’s plenty of news available to read on this subject. Was Chavez unfairly elected? Is Venezuela going nuclear? And what about Pat Robertson’s remarks about assassination? Jawa Report thinks it’s not a bad idea. Shape of Days provides some background history. RELATED: UPDATE:

The leftist mainstream media is ganging uo on what Pat Robertson said for two reasons; He is a Christian conservative minister and because the liberal-biased media see his remarks as a means of attacting President Bush by somehow connecting his remarks to Bush administration policy. What was said was an off-the cuff remark by a private citizen which is being blown completely out of proportion. However, Chavez does require some hard policy thinking especially since 20% of US imported oil comes from Venezuela. Discrete thinking, not bombast.
