Cleric: $1 Million to Kill Cartoonist

**BREAKING NEWS**

AP reports:

A Pakistani cleric announced Friday a $1 million bounty for killing a cartoonist who drew Prophet Muhammad, as thousands joined street protests and Denmark temporarily closed its embassy and advised its citizens to leave the country.”

Police confined the former leader of an Islamic militant group to his home to prevent him from addressing supporters over the cartoons, amid fears he could incite violence, after riots this week killed five people.”

Well, that’s just dandy. $1 million. That ain’t chump change.

Makes you wonder where he got it?

    Well, that’s just dandy.

Huh? Where, exactly, do you think they got this idea? Oh wait, the lunatic is quoted as saying:

“If the West can place a bounty on Osama bin Laden and Zawahri, we can also announce reward for killing the man who has caused this sacrilege of the holy Prophet”

    Link

And, the article goes on to state:

The cleric [Maulana Yousef Qureshi] leads the congregation at the historic Mohabat mosque, on street known for goldsmith shops in the provincial capital of North West Frontier Province - a stronghold of Pakistan’s Islamist opposition parties.

Can somebody explain to me why it’s okay for us to do something, but not okay for others?

    Million Dollar Bounty for Cartoonist

Does anyone think appeasement will work to make this stop? This is something worth fighting over Mr. Dreyfuss. We are being told we must submit to Islam or be killed. Shall we submit to Islam? Or shall we fight. It’s our choice.

  4. George P Says:

Osama bin Laden has taken public responsibility for the killing of over 3000 innocent civilians, and has announced his intention to keep killing people. Killing him may save countless other lives. The Danish cartoonists drew some cartoons.

The Pakistani cleric is not doing “what we are doing”. He is killing people who hurt his feelings. Osama bin Laden is a mass murderer planning more murder. Our asking for his death is very reasonable, given these realities.

OBL: Killed 3000 people on 9/11 and is responsible for terrorist attacks on Americans around the world

Danish Newspaper Editor: He published a paper that had published cartoons of Muhammad

If I put a bounty on everyone that offended me to my core I’d be against the basis of American freedom. I can’t tell you how many times I’d see my religious symbols equated with swastikas, my people drinking blood of children, my brothers’ and sisters’ murders being celebrated, cheered and the murderers honored. And yet I protest, I write articles I speak out but I do not put a bounty on their heads. That you see OBL bounty = Pakistani Cleric bounty shows you have no defined sense of morality or even a basic understanding of freedom.

  6. Vent Says:

That you see OBL bounty = Pakistani Cleric bounty shows you have no defined sense of morality or even a basic understanding of freedom.

Silly person, this is the liberal mantra. They have such a stretched sense of morality that their mascot is Stretch Armstrong. To them, when Bush uses hand gestures during a speech, they see Hitler gesturing to a crowd, because of course hand gestures equal nazi. When they see a minority of minorities in the house and senate, they see a cotton plantation, because of course there should be no such thing as a minority. When they nuke a burrito in the microwave, they see Hiroshima. So why should you be surprised that they’re equating a bounty to bring a mass murderer to justice as being the same as a bounty to murder a newspaper editor. Streeeeeeaaaaaatch.

  7. Rocky Says:

Well, this is a first. The first time I’ve been told I have no sense of morality… because I think killing is wrong. I guess the Bible is wrong. Does this mean I can disregard the rest of the Bible? Is it wrong totally, or… perhaps Defector has selective morality?

There is a difference between bin Laden and this cleric, Qureshi. Of course I support the capture or killing of bin Laden. Bin Laden is an admitted criminal, Qureshi is just another lunatic religious fanatic.

But, that’s not the point! Let’s put the shoe on the other foot. Typical Muslims believe bin Laden is a hero. They name their children after him! These are the people who recently observed Ashura, or in laymen’s terms, the cuttting of one’s forehead and then repeated beating of the wound in order to induce bleeding, as a way of commemorating the death of Husayn in 680 A.D. in his fight to get control of the Caliph position against Caliph Yazid.

Typical Muslims believe that the Danish cartoons are not just “hurting their feelings”, and they’re taking it out on anyone who will pay attention.

So, from the Muslim point of view, we’ve put a bounty on a hero, and insulted thier faith. Do they have a right to be upset… or is that right exclusive to Americans? And before you go saying that I have no “sense of morailty or even a basic understanding of freedom,” take a listen at the things that Pat Robertson (”Assasinate Chavez!”) and Ann Coulter (”We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity!”) have been saying. And you say I have no sense of morality?

My original point still stands. And my point is that we are getting payback for our actions. I have repeatedly tried to make the point (on this board, specifically) that we are fanning the flames of this religious war — we are falling victim to their radical ideology — when we don’t examine how our conduct impacts their world. Again, why is it okay for us to go around saying things like offering a bounty for bin Laden, but not okay for them?

Defector, I think you have the right idea. Protest! Speak out! Work for change, becuase that is the only thing that is going to save us.

As Conseratives, we should rise above it all. It does us no good to go around calling these people names, insulting their beliefs, and generally, inciting them to violence. We are, quite literally, reaping what we have sewn. Aren’t we better than that?

  8. Vent Says:

“And my point is that we are getting payback for our actions”

What actions are those exactly? Having a free press? (even if those in the press forget it). You just don’t seem to get it. Mohommad and Islam has been insulted many times in the past, the reason it’s all of the sudden turned to violence is because they WANT THE VIOLENCE. Your argument used to make a little sense when it was just about Danish cartoons (read DANISH, not US), but now there’s violent protests over everything from Looney Tunes to Valentines Day. This is a volcano that’s already erupted. No amount of sweet talk and soothing wispers will stop the lava. Extremeist islam didn’t suddenly get more extreme just because of “insensitivity”, it’s been bubbling for a long time now. Get the picture.

  9. saint Says:

    vent
Having a free press? (even if those in the press forget it)
Free press is also free not to publish the cartoons.

There is a difference between typical muslims and extremist muslims don’t confuse the two as it only creates more extremists.
So stop saying osama is a hero to typical muslims.

There is no comparrison to 9/11 and Danish cartoons. No justification of the bounty. The osama bounty has a justification.

Even though i heard the bounty was €25,000 and a car. So maybe there is 2 bounties.

  10. Rocky Says:

What, you think the violence that erupted is becuase of what we’ve done… recently? Have you been living in a vacuum? I’ve got the picture; it just seems that those who are busy trying to say that Muslims started this just don’t seem to get it. And now, I’m a liberal. Well, I guess if living by the teachings of the Bible makes me a liberal, then I’m a liberal. Nobody is going to tell me killing is ok. And just becuase they — pointing the finger at anyone — did it, doesn’t make it okay. Didn’t your parents ever tell you two wrongs don’t make a right?

You shall have no other gods before me.

You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you

Honor your father and your mother

    You shall not kill

    Neither shall you commit adultery

    Neither shall you steal

Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor

Neither shall you covet your neighbor’s wife

You shall not desire your neighbor’s house

  11. saint Says:

Well i don’t live by the bible. So quoting the ten commandements. Is not going to sway me. Anyway

I’ll ask you this question Rocky.
if on september 10 you could have killed all the hijackers would you have done so.

The world is never as black and white as we would like it to be.

  12. California Conservative Says:

Well, amen, Brother Rocky. Thanks for purging us of our sins. But no matter how much preaching you do, the fact remains: we’re in a war. A clash of civilizations. Just as you prattle off the “good teachings,” so do Muslims — but they’re reading from a different book, calling for elimination of Israel and declaring the West to be the Great Satan.

Nobody is “telling you that killing is ok” But if someone threatens your life or that of your family, will you not protect and defend — even if it means killing the other? Of course.

As President Bush pronounced, we are “taking the fight to the enemy” instead of waiting until they bring it to us, as they did on 9/11. And if you think the threat is make-believe, just look to Iran and see the last two weeks’ response to the cartoons.

If we sat back and did absolutely nothing, no intervention, what do you think would happen? (And don’t say UN, because they shuffle papers, nothing more) Let’s spell it out: The radical Islamic states would most surely acquire WMDs, they would launch a nuclear attack on Israel (which is the ultimate goal), and if they were successful in doing so, wiping it off the map, do you think they would be content? Hell no.

The West would be next because we are considered the “infidels.” And despite all your preachings, they would just as surely drive a sword through your heart because jihad is a “holy war” and western civilization is considered evil. And that’s what we’re dealing with.

  13. Vent Says:

Rocky, have you been sniffing glue? Seriously. The US bounty against Osama is for his capture (if taken without armed resistance), not murder. He will be put to trial and probably face the death penalty. Is that what you mean about “nobody is going to tell me killing is ok”? Oh so I guess you’re playing the death penalty card. Puh-lease. Put the 10 commendmants away. It’s so tedius.

Killing/murder are different than war. The Bible differeniates between the two (I don’t feel like looking up chapter and verse right now - but it does).

Didn’t your parents ever tell you two wrongs don’t make a right?

Appease your enemy? What a simplistic argument. This isn’t playground grudges. This is war and everything is at stake.

And my point is that we are getting payback for our actions.

It does us no good to go around calling these people names, insulting their beliefs, and generally, inciting them to violence. We are, quite literally, reaping what we have sewn.

Blame the victim? Have you not seen the bloody rioting and violence? Have you not heard the rhetoric? Their stated intention is to kill or force into submission Westerners and Israelites. Understand this.

You say you are Christian. If that is so, you are an Infidel and they will kill you and your family. Does that make you think differently of the definition of murder?

At what point are they responsible for their own actions?

Hehehe…I’m not sure which is funnier here…The Danish Cartoons…the fake excuse to riot commonly know as “sacrilege of the holy Prophet”…or the faulty logic of rocky’s assertion. And they’ll keep on killing and really “insulting the prophet”. It is ignorance, intolarence and this kind of faulty thinking that produces this crap.
