ONLINE SURVEY: 2008 GOP Convention In San Francisco?

This might qualify as the most ridiculous poll. Ever. But why not?

The S.F. Business Times is currently taking this survey:

The Republican National Committee has invited a number of cities to compete for the opportunity to host the 2008 Republican national convention. San Francisco has not been kind to nominees named here. Barry Goldwater, who was nominated in the Cow Palace, was trounced by Lyndon Johnson in 1964. And Ronald Reagan vaporized Walter Mondale, who was nominated at a convention held at Moscone Center.

Should San Francisco seek to host the Republican national convention?

Yes: Overwhelmingly Democratic San Francisco welcomes diversity

No: San Francisco doesn’t need the traffic and other problems

We know where Supervisor Sandavol stands. We know how Boxer, Feinstein and Pelosi are going to vote. And it’s obvious how these folks feel about it. But that’s only counting the outspoken.

Please give your opinion. As they say, every vote counts.

If liberal protests can be called a circus, this would be the greatest show on Earth.

UPDATE:
Ed Driscoll weighs in, favoring the idea:

[Holding the 2008 GOP Convention in S.F. is] “a thought so far from the conventional wisdom that its crystalline logic is actually transparent. But making it happen will test the very limits of Karl Rove’s genius”

Pointing to an article that James Taranto wrote a year before the 2004 GOP Convention in Manhattan (”…TV crews will be unable to resist [protesters] — thus treating voters across the country to images of Bush’s opposition as a bunch of extremists and freaks”), Driscoll concludes:

And the reaction that the GOP actually did receive in New York in 2004 would be doubled if, astonishingly, they really were heading for the ‘Frisco bay.

Doubled? Guess that’s what you call a “conservative” estimate. But we think it’s safe to predict that it would by ground zero for every moonbat living under every rock. Cindy Sheehan would even have to fight to keep her postition as grand master of ceremonies.

But it’s all in theory. After all, what are the chances?

With the S.F. Board of Supervisors recently set to debate call for impeachment of Bush and Cheney, we think they wouldn’t even consider hosting the convention.

In this city, “celebrating diversity” doesn’t include conservatives.

An Idea Whose Time Has Come

Sometimes an idea is so radical, so out there, that it takes time to wrap your mind around the brilliance that’s hidden within it. California Conservative has an idea that’s so far out there, it’s crystalline logic is actually transparent….

with the GOP unable to front anybody with a chance against Clinton II, it would actually be great fun to poke the Democratic bear with a GOP Convention stick. Who knows, the protests and demonstrations may turn funny/ugly/silly/newsworthy enough to generate a backlash in middle America against the Dems (like what happened with the Paul Wellstone “memorial” in Minnesota).

Good TV. That’s all I’m sayin.

    And why not?

The Republicans have asked several major cities to consider hosting their national convention. It might be surprising, but San Francisco is on their list.
