GOP Outreach Revisited
RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman will take part in the “3rd Annual Conference of the First Lady’s Summit” to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
The First Lady’s Summit is comprised of 50 pastors’ wives of the largest African American churches in the nation. RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman will also participate in a Martin Luther King Day Celebration at Hope Christian Church, where Bishop Harry Jackson serves as pastor.
Don’t think that this isn’t getting noticed amongst middle class and religious African Americans, who still see MLK as a champion of civil rights but who don’t look to the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons as representatives of MLK’s original civil rights movement.
It’s also worth noting that middle class African Americans don’t relying on the NAACP and other organizations to improve their lives. College educations and improving work conditions are helping them move ahead without Jesse Jackson’s help.
