ACRU Wins Major Victory
That’s what their press release says and I believe them, especially after this:
President Bush signed into law yesterday Federal legislation providing for the immediate transfer of the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial in San Diego from city ownership to Federal ownership. This ends the legal challenges to the large cross at the center of the Memorial now pending in Federal and state courts in California. Those cases are against the City of San Diego, which no longer owns the property, and are based on the California Constitution, which does not apply to this Federal action.
This won’t end the fight but it changes the odds considerably. If anyone thinks that the ACLU would invest this much energy in a lawsuit attacking traditional American beliefs and practices, then just walk away on a technicality, they’re kidding themselves. The ACLU will simply move their lawsuit into federal court. Still, it’s nice seeing part of their hard work go down the tubes.
It couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of losers.
