Dear Nancy, It’s Your War Now: Watcha’ Gonna Do?
Democrats swept Republicans out of power this week in both houses of Congress. Many pundits are saying this was a referendum on the war in Iraq more than anything else.
The immediate firing of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld signals Bush is ready to capitulate to the Democrats on the war. Having Bob Gates waiting in the wings as his replacement indicates that the President had plans to fire Rummy before the election. That begs the question as to why he didn’t fire Rumsfeld three or four weeks ago, when it would have given the Republicans some momentum in the election.
We need to win the war in Iraq, not just bring the troops home. Cutting and running will leave a huge power vacuum behind that the Iranians are ready to fill- not good for America. But with all the criticism of Bush and his war policy, enough to win the election, no alternative plans to win were presented.
So the bigger question is “Nancy Pelosi, It’s Your War Now-Watcha’ Gonna Do?”, and “I’m going to Disneyland” isn’t the answer.

Pelosi’s answer is the same as Murtha’s and Reid’s and Dean’s and most of the uber-liberals in Congress — cut and run.
