Professional Sports: Dress Code Required

The Sac Bee reports: “New 49ers coach Mike Nolan’s idea seemed innocent enough. Instead of warm-up pants and a sweat shirt, he thought it would be nice to pay homage to his father, former San Francisco coach Dick Nolan, by wearing a suit to games this season.”

But at some point between the Dick Nolan era (1968-75) and the Mike Nolan era (2005-?), everything in the NFL began to revolve around money, including the coach’s attire. Reebok owns the right to make and market sideline apparel, and seeing as how the sneaker company doesn’t make men’s suits - not yet, anyway - Nolan’s request was denied.

You’d think “professional” sports would happily approve professional attire. Guess it’s more important to wear a logo. Very commercial.
