The Smackdown Continues
As I first noted in The Smackdown Starts, Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the odd man out in the Democratic Party because he’s man enough to stand up against the nutcase fringe base of the Democratic Party and tell all the world that finishing the job in Iraq is the right thing to do. Today, the smackdown continues against Sen. Lieberman. Here’s what some ‘leading’ Democrats are saying about him:
“It is disturbing enough that Senator Lieberman remains one of the President’s biggest cheerleaders. But his call for opponents of the President’s failed policy to keep quiet is outrageous,” Jim Dean wrote last week.
As I pointed out last week, Jim Dean is DNC Chairman Howard Dean’s brother and he runs a fever swamp organization called “Democracy for America”. Jim Dean’s trying to find someone for the primary to challenge Lieberman. Wouldn’t you agree that it’s pretty nutty when the DNC Chairman’s brother is trying to dump the most respected Democrat in the Senate? That’s what passes for the majority opinion of the Democratic Party these days.
Then there’s former NATO Commander and once-and-future Democratic Presidential hopeful Wesley Clark, whose recent counsel was for Mr. Bush to invite Syria and Iran to help us in Iraq.
How he’d pull that off is beyond the wildest imagination of anyone. It’s likely beyond his wildest imagination, too, but I’m sure it sounded impressive when he said it. Simply put, inviting Syria and Iran to help in Iraq is one of the most unserious things I’ve ever heard and that’s saying alot about the most recent vintage of the Democratic Party.

Even though I am a long way from Connecticut, I emailed Senator Lieberman and thanked him for his courage and honesty in speaking out about conditions in Iraq. While I don’t agree with most of his views, I believe he is sincere and believes in standing up for what he thinks is right. Actually, in 2000, after hearing him speak at the Dem Convention, I thought the Dem’s had missed the boat with their nomination.

Windy is onto something in writing Sen. Lieberman. In fact, I think he could use some more emails for encouragement. I know that he’s a loyal Democrat so this smackdown has to be painful for him.
