Just a wild thought, may be the next big earth quake will shake the entire west coast away from the continent and the peoples there declare independence.

You know it's kinda funny how the Chronicle is Northern California's largest daily newspaper. Other than the 9 Bay Area counties, the rest of northern California is very conservative, just look at a county by county breakdown of the 2004 presidential election for California, and you will see what I am talking about. All of NorCal is fed up of D.C.'s antics in general, I mean how can approx 539 people effectively help govern the most populous state, a state that is over 3,000 miles away? We are 5th in the world according to GDP, so we could easily handle ourselves. The federal government should take notice, because California does indeed represent a large part of the US Economy, and if Dubya has any common sense in him, he would understand what that means.

I read 'saints' comment three times before I realized what he was saying, then four more times to see if it had anything to do with the discussion. No luck on the latter count.

The rest of America has good reason to be afraid and even angry at the voting population of San Francisco. The San Francisco chronical is one of the largest and most rediculous left wing paper, and fuels the moonbat mentality. The almost daily public protests are often grotesque and obscene and do nothing to futher any intellectual debate, and the military population in the area face ridicule and even personal danger by the activist college age population. Even Dianne Feinstein can't stand San Fransisco anymore.

Are people allowed to disagree in America?

Oh ya the smoking ban is working spectacularly well in Ireland. So well the brits have now copied us. Cigerate sales down drink sales up. All good.

Funny about the ship though. US ships dock in Ireland occasionally and we are a "neutral" country.

Hear hear CC!

As a High Desert resident here in Sunny Southern California I'm with Loren. :)

In all seriousness though this got got elected by SOMEONE. There's obviously enough folks to vote this guy and his fellows into office. That entire group keeps doing this crazy lefty stuff and hence gives all SF'ens a bad name. If you're all not like this why not stand up and say so?

As it stands I pity and feel sorry for my unarmed brothers and sisters in San Fran.

First of all, thanks for your comments. Secondly, in Sandoval's own words, he's speaking for "most people in San Francisco." (See the video)

When an elected official is given the opportunity to speak in front of a national (and international) audience, and he uses the occasion to say something so outrageous, he should be held accountable. By not casting the spotlight on his remarks, this mentality will be allowed to fester.

The fact that he felt comfortable speaking out with such disregard to his greater role as a "public official" is evidence of how far things have fallen. You mention that kids "need role models." Exactly right. And presumably you've already email Sup. Sandoval with that perspective.

There's no "screaming hissy fit" or "jumping up and down" going on here. But maybe there should be. We're just showcasing an example of San Francisco politics at its finest.

But you're right about one thing: there's a lot of charity work to be done throughout the world. Sup. Sandoval might be better off rebuilding churches and teaching literacy. But then he won't get on T.V.

We appreciate your readership.

C'mon folks, grow up. One supervisor does not represent the whole city. It seems you all are just looking for a reason to hate San Francisco. There is a wide variety of people here - I've never met anyone that agrees with Sandoval on this issue.

Perhaps what makes San Franciscans unique is that we can listen to Sandoval say something we completely disagree with, and not have to have a screaming hissy fit about it. He has a point of view I disagree with. Period.

Why not direct all this passion to something positive instead of jumping up and down at one guy in San Francisco. There are kids out there who need role models TODAY! There are churches that need to be rebuilt in the south. There is a LOT that needs to be done in New Orleans. There is probably a literacy program you could volunteer with in your own home town.

Your intensity and intelligence are needed by the world. But directing your energies only in destructive nasty attacks on other people is not helping anyone, including yourselves.

Interesting story. It is amazing that San Francisco was not always run by these kind of people; Dianne Feinstein was mayor and she actually had some good sense.
