San Francisco Needs to Leave the US

Although there have been many—many—others, one of the most telling comments as to why San Francisco really and truly needs to consider officially leaving the United States of America occurred on Wednesday. One of its typically vocal leftist supervisors (there is no other kind in San Francisco) made the typical leftist, dangerous and anti-US comments.

Leftist Democrat San Francisco Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval, on Hannity’s Wednesday radio program, said “we don’t need the US Military” and “I am not in favor of a standing army.” Sandoval also said that the majority of his colleagues think and believe the same way. He and his “colleagues” want to do away with the US military—altogether. Sandoval said the local police and fire departments could handle attacks against his city. Huh? With the anti-military and anti-police attitudes prevalent in San Francisco (the San Francisco Chronicle has written and continues to write multiple articles blasting the SF police), coupled with the obvious fact that “local police” and most certainly “fire departments” have no military training as to how to handle terrorists (I doubt that’s in their job descriptions), how do the “leaders” in San Francisco expect locals to protect it? The fact is San Francisco leaders haven’t even begun to think this out. But, the people living in the City by the Bay don’t seem to be thinking much—at all—recently. If they did, they wouldn’t have elected these buffoons. Sandoval also reiterated something most of us already knew. He said San Francisco is an “anti-war city”.

Then, we have the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voting 8-3 to stop the USS Iowa from ‘setting up shop’ and even docking in “its city”. Previously, Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) had arranged to have the USS Iowa come to San Francisco in order to be used as an educational tool and to bring in tourist dollars to the city. Suffice it to say, Sen. Feinstein’s plan was shot down. Although Feinstein is a liberal Democrat, she is apparently no longer liberal enough for this ever-moving-further-to-the-left-and-oblivion city. Besides, with its current “we’re an anti-war, anti-military, anti-police city” attitude (I think “complex” might be more appropriate), it’s no wonder that this city views one of the US’ tools that helped to protect our country and the countries of our allies from destruction with inordinate disdain. Those making these decisions are comprised of the lunatic fringes that are, tragically, now in power.

The San Francisco Chronicle, one of the left-wing organs that continues to promulgate the anti-war, anti-military, anti-police agenda of the far-Left, has attacked the local SF police with merciless abandon. Instead of using computer systems to track criminals, the Chronicle has pushed for new $800K computer system that will track police officers suspected of abuse and the complaints against them. Out of 2,200 SF police officers, 100 have been identified as ‘suspected of abuse’. But, the vast majority of these have not even been charged. Appearing on The Factor, Lawyer and former SF Supervisor Angela Alioto said there have been “28 prior incidences of excessive force”. Twenty-eight? Good grief, woman! We’d all like perfection in our lives but, that’s not possible. Out of all of the police officers’ daily incident calls, twenty-eight seem beyond laughable—if not embarrassing to even bring up.

However, even far-Left SF Mayor Gavin Newsom has requested the addition of 620 new police officers. Question: Why would any police officer choose to work in a city that denigrates them and places them on a much shorter leash than it does its criminal element? Guess masochism is a strong San Francisco trait, too!

To top things off, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has called for the impeachment or resignation of President Bush. For this left-of-left city, this should come as no surprise. In response to Bill O’Reilly’s question to Alioto “Doesn’t it make your City look stupid to have the Board of Supervisors say President Bush should be impeached?” Alioto responded: “You know that is so San Francisco. With all due respect I wrote the first smoking ban in 1993 and Ireland just copied us. You will see that the rest of the country will follow us once we do this. It is extremely important to note San Francisco believes this is not a justified war. We should not be in Iraq. We should bring home all of our men and women from Iraq.”

The final questions are “Do we the people actually want San Francisco to decide policy for the rest of the county—and the rest of us? Or, is it time that it began its own separate and very-small country that will protect itself with the infamous Zell Miller spitballs?”

I vote for the latter. What about you?

Interesting story. It is amazing that San Francisco was not always run by these kind of people; Dianne Feinstein was mayor and she actually had some good sense.

  2. Loren Says:

I speak for southern californians when I say, if SF goes, take LA, Santa Barbara and that whole coast between teh two cities with them!

  3. growup Says:

C’mon folks, grow up. One supervisor does not represent the whole city. It seems you all are just looking for a reason to hate San Francisco. There is a wide variety of people here - I’ve never met anyone that agrees with Sandoval on this issue.

Perhaps what makes San Franciscans unique is that we can listen to Sandoval say something we completely disagree with, and not have to have a screaming hissy fit about it. He has a point of view I disagree with. Period.

Why not direct all this passion to something positive instead of jumping up and down at one guy in San Francisco. There are kids out there who need role models TODAY! There are churches that need to be rebuilt in the south. There is a LOT that needs to be done in New Orleans. There is probably a literacy program you could volunteer with in your own home town.

Your intensity and intelligence are needed by the world. But directing your energies only in destructive nasty attacks on other people is not helping anyone, including yourselves.

First of all, thanks for your comments. Secondly, in Sandoval’s own words, he’s speaking for “most people in San Francisco.” (See the video)

When an elected official is given the opportunity to speak in front of a national (and international) audience, and he uses the occasion to say something so outrageous, he should be held accountable. By not casting the spotlight on his remarks, this mentality will be allowed to fester.

The fact that he felt comfortable speaking out with such disregard to his greater role as a “public official” is evidence of how far things have fallen. You mention that kids “need role models.” Exactly right. And presumably you’ve already email Sup. Sandoval with that perspective.

There’s no “screaming hissy fit” or “jumping up and down” going on here. But maybe there should be. We’re just showcasing an example of San Francisco politics at its finest.

But you’re right about one thing: there’s a lot of charity work to be done throughout the world. Sup. Sandoval might be better off rebuilding churches and teaching literacy. But then he won’t get on T.V.

    We appreciate your readership.

    Hear hear CC!

As a High Desert resident here in Sunny Southern California I’m with Loren. :)

In all seriousness though this got got elected by SOMEONE. There’s obviously enough folks to vote this guy and his fellows into office. That entire group keeps doing this crazy lefty stuff and hence gives all SF’ens a bad name. If you’re all not like this why not stand up and say so?

As it stands I pity and feel sorry for my unarmed brothers and sisters in San Fran.

Are people allowed to disagree in America?

Oh ya the smoking ban is working spectacularly well in Ireland. So well the brits have now copied us. Cigerate sales down drink sales up. All good.

Funny about the ship though. US ships dock in Ireland occasionally and we are a “neutral” country.

  7. Vent Says:

I read ’saints’ comment three times before I realized what he was saying, then four more times to see if it had anything to do with the discussion. No luck on the latter count.

The rest of America has good reason to be afraid and even angry at the voting population of San Francisco. The San Francisco chronical is one of the largest and most rediculous left wing paper, and fuels the moonbat mentality. The almost daily public protests are often grotesque and obscene and do nothing to futher any intellectual debate, and the military population in the area face ridicule and even personal danger by the activist college age population. Even Dianne Feinstein can’t stand San Fransisco anymore.

  8. Ian Says:

You know it’s kinda funny how the Chronicle is Northern California’s largest daily newspaper. Other than the 9 Bay Area counties, the rest of northern California is very conservative, just look at a county by county breakdown of the 2004 presidential election for California, and you will see what I am talking about. All of NorCal is fed up of D.C.’s antics in general, I mean how can approx 539 people effectively help govern the most populous state, a state that is over 3,000 miles away? We are 5th in the world according to GDP, so we could easily handle ourselves. The federal government should take notice, because California does indeed represent a large part of the US Economy, and if Dubya has any common sense in him, he would understand what that means.

Just a wild thought, may be the next big earth quake will shake the entire west coast away from the continent and the peoples there declare independence.
