Misleading Headline of the Day

Iyad Allawi has got it down. The ‘it’ that he’s got down is knowing that, for a politician, most any headline is better than no headline. This BBC headline and article offer an example of this:

Iraq in civil war, says former PM

Liberals like John Murtha will read that and say “I told you.” Not so fast, Mr. Obnoxious. Let’s read the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say:

He said Iraq had not got to the point of no return, but if it fell apart sectarianism would spread abroad. The UK and US have repeatedly denied Iraq is facing a civil war, but Mr Allawi suggested there was no other way to describe the sectarian violence.

Which is it, Mr. Allawi? Has Iraq disintegrated into civil war or is it that you think a civil war might happen? There’s quite a difference between the two.

Analysts say Mr Allawi’s comments are part of political maneuvering as talks continue over creation of a government.

Methinks that Murtha’s ramblings are “political maneuvering” prior to an election. The facts simply don’t support Allawi’s or Murtha’s claims.

NPR did another one of their trick stories this morning. They lead the story with some Iraq guy saying “US should get out of Iraq”. Then in their “Ah ha, got Bush now!” tone of voice NPR digs in for more bad humiliating news for Bush. The Iraq guy then admits the US cannot get out of Iraq now. The whole segment was to argue over what “get out” means.

They did the same thing with the inflammatory term “civil war”. They quote some guy saying one exists now, they dig in for more info, and it turns out that a group of people randomly blowing up themselves doesn’t quite fit the term. They argue over what a “civil war” is.

It’s the same thing with catchy “Bush lied”. Many applications of that are so bizarre, an argument over the definition of “lying” is required. For example, “lying” about Iraq being an imminent threat, when he said exactly the opposite, that we should not wait for Iraq to become an imminent threat. Okay, now he’s lying for implying Iraq was dangerous. Whatever.

Isn’t this the kind of thing that a true conservative, from California or elsewhere, would be against us getting involved with in the first place? Seems like your current approach is wing and a prayer. Pretty pathetic, considering the people and policies you’re still defending have resulted in the deaths of around 120,000 people and counting, and things only getting worse. Honesty might suit you better.

Great post, the left in our country has taken it across the line. There is a difference in partisan debate, and actively undermining the commander and chief in a time where we are at war with people who want to rule the world through their radical views and sharia law.
“Iraq is George Bush’s Vietnam” - Ted (hecup) Kennedy

“The Americans… Will see horror that would make them forget the horror they saw in Vietnam” - Number 2 man in Al Qaeda last Aug. 4th.

Whats the difference in these two quotes… Al Qaeda considers Iraq and the war against us as the same thing… many far left democrats just cant seem to realize this.

I turned to cspan-2 one day and saw a US congresswoman hosting an anti war rally. Shes congresswoman Waters, a democrat from the state of California, and she was calling for people to write their reps. and to get them to join her caucus which stands for getting the US out of Iraq now, in anyway possible except actual victory over the beheading, raping, subhuman monsters like Aymen Al Zarqawi and his band of thugs that openly state that they are opposed to any democracy in Iraq.

The simple fact is this… We have had large amounts of progress in the country of Iraq including actual elections, over 100,000 Iraqi national guardsman, and over 3,000 schools renovated to say the least. We have to stay there until the job is done, and the Iraqis can take care of themselves… PERIOD

Take care and God bless, keep on posting.

time.com’s headline is a whopper about Operation Swarmer:
Not a shot was fired, or a leader nabbed, in a major offensive that failed to live up to its advance billing

Just yesterday these guys were barking about how this was yet another major military operation, after Bush’s famous Mission Accomplished speech. Today they are complaining there is too little violence for their tastes.
