DNC Supports Canadian Troops

Bottom Line Up Front: Dems can’t fake the funk with military families.

The DNC (Democratic National Committee) website yesterday had this posted on their front page:

Notice anything wrong with this picture? Perhaps the crestless beret? The flower on the lapel? No name or rank? The foreign military in the background? Turns out it’s an image of a Canadian soldier (compare). Below is the original photo of the Canadian soldier at an award ceremony:
Holy Cow, Democrats not only have no idea what the US military thinks, but no idea what the US military looks like! Talk about out of touch!

Little Green Footballs discussed the obvious, that the insignia had been edited out. The DNC didn’t do the photoshopping; they’re just so out of touch with the military that they didn’t notice the obvious blank spot on the beret where the unit insignia goes. Maybe the DNC’s campaign to out “gay Republican staffers” has them so exhausted and preoccupied that they didn’t realize they were slamming the Canadian government and not their own.

And why are all those Democrats shaking their fists at us??

This is what the page looks like now:

At least the DNC didn’t use a picture of Jesse Macbeth, the disturbed young man who falsely claimed to be a US Army Ranger who abused and murdered Iraqi civilians in cold blood. The anti-war outlets LOVED him… until they realized (thanks to conservative and military bloggers) that he was a fraud. The DNC was slow in spotting that as well.

The DNC article says:

At a time when our nation is asking great sacrifices of our brave men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, a new poll indicates that too many have not received the resources they need and were promised. According to a poll released this week by VoteVets.org Action Fund, 42 percent of the veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan reported receiving sub-standard equipment while on duty. Close to two-thirds believe the wars have left the Army and the Marine Corps overextended at this time. This follows the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, which found that the President’s approval rating has fallen three points to 40 percent and “46 percent of registered voters believe the war in Iraq has hurt the United States in its ability to win the war on terrorism.” [MSNBC, 10/3/06]

In reading the entire article, keep in mind that quotes about Pres. Bush’s mistreatment of military personal, veterans and families are sourced by the New York Times and quotes from Nancy Pelosi. When in doubt, KEEP THAT IN MIND!

“Sub-standard equipment?” BS. CPT Patrick Murphy, now a reservist, served in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division with my husband in 2003-2004 and is now running for Congress as a Democrat from Pennsylvania. In a May 28, 2006 Stars and Stripes article Murphy said,

“We were absolutely shorthanded,” said Murphy, a former West Point professor. “My Humvee didn’t have doors. And I knew in the back of my mind what was going on. We weren’t given enough to do the job, and there weren’t enough boots on the ground.”

That’s called “spin”. CPT Murphy knows full well that NO Hum-V’s at Ft. Bragg had doors. SFC Proctor says:

“It was SOP (standard operating procedure) at the 82nd ABN DIV to leave doors off of tactical vehicles to facilitate rapid dismount of ground troops. The mission of the 82nd is to conduct forced entry operation by parachute assault, not ride around in tanks and Hum-V’s. When IEDs became the primary threat, we contracted to have iron doors bolted onto our Hum-V’s.”

In other words, the 82nd’s rapid response called for parachuting into an operation and Hum-V’s had no doors for quick and easy entry and dismount. CPT Murphy, a Democrat, is doing what Democrats do so well: reporting all the news he wants you to know. Murphy is personally a heck of a nice guy, but that was simply spin and 1/2 the story. The United States military is the best funded and armed military in the world. Perhaps the 42% of soldiers who reported receiving sub-standard equipment were Reserves, ignorant or had some reason to spin like CPT Murphy.

As for the connotation that soldiers feel wronged by President Bush, here are some figures from the US Army:

VOTE IN 2004 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION:
Bush: 73%
Kerry: 18%

POLITICAL MAKE UP
Republicans: 59%
Independents: 20%
Democrat: 13%

(According to the Army Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps Times, Navy Times poll in USA Today)

In the last Presidential election, soldiers voted 4-1 for Bush over Kerry and Independents overwhelmingly voted for Bush with Republicans.

LT COL Bryan Hilferty said earlier this year of Army re-enlistments:

“Soldiers like the Army and the war is not causing people to leave. Pay and re-enlistment bonuses help, but it’s not just pay. Our people want to be part of something greater than themselves, and they’re willing to put up with a lot.”

Yes, and they put up with a lot from Democrats as well.

All branches of the US military, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, are consistently exceeding recruitment and re-enlistment (retention) expectations according to the Department of Defense.

RECRUITING:

Army: 104%
Navy: 100%
Marine Corps: 107%
Air Force: 100%

(Oct. 1, 2005 to August 31, 2006)

RETENTION:

Army: 104%
Navy: 100%
Marine Corps: 101%
Air Force: 100%

(Oct. 1, 2005 to August 31, 2006)

How will the DNC spin that away?
