Democrats Search for Electable Position on Iraq War

FOXNEWS.com has an article about the Democratic party trying to come up with a position on the war in Iraq to run with in the mid term elections.

WASHINGTON — The American military’s continued presence in Iraq will be a prime talking point for Democrats as they try to regain the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate in November. But beyond daily attacks on the Bush administration’s handling of the war, the Democrats have yet to form a unified party position on the issue.

The problem with the Democrats is that they are not seeking an Iraq policy that is best for America, or best for Iraq. It is that they are seeking an Iraq policy that they think will get them elected.

Back when Jack Murtha originally floated his immediate withdrawal proposal, Democrats were all over it, and they were getting plenty of press on the idea. Then came Rep. Duncan Hunter’s resolution in the House of Representatives to put them on the record and the vote was 403-3 against immediate withdrawal. To be fair, some Republicans were also supporting immediate withdrawal, but it’s main support was with Democrats. Only 3 were willing to go on the record telling the American people what they really think.

Like the flap over Arabs leasing terminal facilities in American ports where the security and ownership remains in American hands, the Democrats are engaging in racial profiling despite their claim to the moral high ground on racial issues. Did they suddenly stop liking Arabs, or decide that racism was a good thing? No, they found what they think is a security issue they can get to the right of Bush on.

Then, as now, the Democrats know the American people will not elect them on what they really believe so they wrap themselves in the cloak of what they think people want to hear.

What the American people want to hear are people with leadership who have good ideas of what to do based on sound principles, not on sound bites.
