You don't 'win' a war by simply killing people and letting the political and economic issues sort themselves out. The politicians DO need to be involved by having clearly laid all this out BEFORE the war started. Anyone with a smattering of knowledge of the ME knew that the Sunni/Shiite animosities were going to erupt after Saddam was eliminated. Was there a plan? No. There was simply one misstep and lost opportunity after another. As soon as they dismissed the Iraqi military and police forces I knew they'd screwed the pooch. You can't really blame the media for simply pointing out the fact that Bush et al have mangled the handling of this war. The simple fact is, they have.
