The chorus of defeatism, unfortunately, is so strong in the media and among many in Congress that it blinds them to recognizing the accomplishments by Patraeus and the US military in Iraq over the past year. Patraeus' leadership, and President Bush's courage to go forward with the troop surge despite the domestic unpopularity of the move, has transformed the situation in Iraq into one that is winnable--something that many saw as an inconceivable proposition last January. It is now the Iraqi government's war to win or lose, given that the political choices they make in the coming months will either consolidate victory or lead Iraq back into ruin. Great post.
