Collateral Damage: CIA Leak Case

CIA officer Mary McCarthy was fired last week from the CIA for leaking government secrets to the press. She “leaked” to Washington Post reporter Dana Priest that there are CIA prisons in Europe used to hold captured Al-Qaeda terrorists, damaging US ties to countries helping the US wage the war on terror and foreign intelligent agencies. McCarthy was also the one who leaked the existence of Pres. Bush’s domestic eavesdropping program supervised by the National Security Agency. McCarthy failed several CIA conducted polygraph tests, after which she confessed that she had leaked the intelligence.

Meanwhile, Washington Post reporter Dana Priest won a Pulitzer Prize for her anti-Bush, anti-war reports based on the intelligence leaks.

Facts about Mary:

  • Mary McCarthy was special assistant to President Clinton and senior director of intelligence in his White House
  • Mary donated to John Kerry campaign 2004 and the Al Gore Campaign in 2000
  • Mary worked with Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame’s husband, and Sandy Burger
  • Mary’s confidante Dana Priest, writer for the Washington Post, is married and her husband is close with Jo Wilson

The term ‘den of thieves’ comes to mind.

Democrats who were swift to condemn the leaking of not so covert Valerie Plame as a criminal offense are now DEFENDING McCarthy and Priest’s truth telling escapades.

JOHN KERRY: Here’s my fundamental view of this, that you have somebody being fired from the CIA for allegedly telling the truth, and you have no one fired from the white house for revealing a CIA agent in order to support a lie. That underscores what’s really wrong in Washington, DC Here.

I’m glad she told the truth, but she’s going to obviously — if she did it, if she did it — suffer the consequences of breaking the law.” — ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos

JUAN WILLIAMS: Brit, she took a risk. She was very aware of what she had signed. She is now bearing the cost of having broken that pledge. And so in that sense, yes, I do believe it’s an act of honor. She did it because she wanted to get the word out. –Fox News, Brit Hume

Oh, my God. No need to go on. You get the idea. In the good old days a citizen would be executed for violating the Espionage Act and betraying America during a time of war. Now a traitor becomes a political poster child and given a Pulitzer Prize. It doesn’t matter that John Kerry lied (again, *sigh*) about the “White House revealing a CIA agent in order to support a lie” knowing full well the White House did NOT out Valerie Plame. It doesn’t matter Mary McCarthy is now denying she leaked, contradicting her confession to the CIA that she did reveal the secret intelligence and break the law in one of the worst ways despite her confession. These are liberals. This is what they do. What does matter is this:

Democrats are engaged in a very dangerous game of national Russian roulette. The blanks are the empty rhetoric and posturing they fill their arsenal with. The bullet, however, is aimed firmly at the forehead of the American citizen and US national security. With every irresponsible statement, an enemy that would kill us again takes note and uses the verbal assassination to demoralize and discourage those brave enough to protect not only innocent Americans who “get it”, but the stupid ones who don’t.

Democrats claim to be just as patriotic as Americans who don’t burn the flag or display it upside down, but judging by their words and deeds they don’t seem to care beyond their own political power. They get high on power and its addictive influence and with every election lost become like heroine addicts needing another fix; lying, stealing, selling their own children for one more hit until they convince gullible people that they are actually good and caring. Then they can take back the Congress, the Senate and the White House, so for them its all worth it. Anything and anyone who stands in their way is fair game, means that justifies the end.

This latest example of liberals selling out America, and worse yet, Americans, simply buttresses the ugly truth behind liberalism: any collateral damage is worth the price of political power and personal freedom over the good of all: whether the unborn, the soldier, Terri Schaivo, crime and punishment, assisted suicide or a weak national security, liberals worship their track record of being on the side of death. They wear it like a badge of honor.

If we don’t stop them, we all get what they deserve.
