I would have thought "pretty much" would have fallen into the region of "most" or "many" but apparently not for some people....

I think it's a fair question to ask why lefty activists aren't doing anything, but this begs at least three questions:
1) How do you know 'they' aren't? Since hurthing them through share price, as you argue, is a personal choice you'll never know if lefties are making their power felt. You're just presuming you know what lefties are thinking. A dangerous habit.

2) What are righty activists doing about it? To steal a play from your book: probably nothing. Better yet, what they're doing is probably buying up all that stock that lefties are selling. It has to go somewhere right since the stock market is a zero sum game. I applaud you for bringing the issue up but it's also been covered in newspapers, in other conservative blogs, and in other liberal blogs. Doesn't seem to me that anyone is out there saying 'Yay for censorship!'.....except maybe the Chinese government. I think your making assumptions that you can't justify because you really dislike people who don't have hard right views. I think that's a flaw. I don't necessarily agree with everything you have to say but I read nonetheless because sometimes I pick up things that I either didn't know and these things can change my mind. If I refused to even consider other people's views simply because of their supposed 'lefty' politics, well, then that makes my intellectual world a lot smaller. Not all of them are the demons that you think as not all conservatives are the demons certain lefties would have you beliefe.

3) What is the administration doing about it? Oh, nothing...but I think it's telling that there's not much of a squak about it coming from DC. But then, it's DC. If there's money/power in it, they'll keep their mouths shut.

Oh, one more thing: it's amusing how you and Deep Fried are missing the point.

This isn't about Yahoo! It's about censorship. One of the major liberal bogeymen.

Why aren't the lefty activists leading a PR assualt against Google? Hit 'em where it hurts: share price. Afterall, the founders are billionaires. *gasp* In liberal parlance, that means "capitalist pigs." No better target. No better reason.

We support your efforts to stop censorship in China. Power to the people!

"Well, I used to live there and the execs/founders were always pretty much staunch Republican supporters."

That's what YOU wrote. And it coveys a "blanket statement."

If you intended otherwise, you would have written "most" or "some" or "a few" of the execs/founders. But we're not here to give you grammar lessons. Besides, it appears that you've got a good crip on creative writing.

Thanks for reading, and looking forward to your continued commentary.

Dear CC, did I say ALL of them? No. I would have thought you intelligent enough to realize I wasn't making a blanket statement that ALL SV founders/execs donate money to the RNC. I expect you to use your brain when you read, just as you expect the rest of us to.

Oh, and Matt, I guess you aren't talking about this founder of Yahoo!

I suppose when Yahoo! (GOP supporter by percentage of political contributions) sold out that Chinese guy for disagreeing with the govt. resulting in a ten-year sentence, that was OK?

Conservatives??? No-one who brings in Malkin to back up their opinions can in any way be considered 'conservative'. That would be like Howard Dean quoting Stalin. Get a grip, (not so) silent "majority"!

Google Question

Anyone else find it more than odd that Google will bend over backwards to help out a communist government stifle free speech, yet not cooperate in a little experiment here in the United States?

I do.

Well, I used to live there and the execs/founders were always pretty much staunch Republican supporters. It even shows in their donations to the RNC and the bills they supported. I don't know which SV you're talking about. Maybe some super secret version in Hollywood.

First it was Microsoft, then Yahoo and other Internet portals were quick to follow. Today, Google became the latest Internet content provider to give in to the demands of China's Communist dictators.
