The Gloves Are Officially Off

This ad from the NRCC marks the official taking off of the gloves. This signals that they’re bringing the heavy artillery out. Check this out:

It isn’t easy to hold people’s attention for 90 seconds. This video does. Bravo.

Damn that Democratic President Bush and his entire liberal cabinet. If we had socialized business like Republicans who controlled Congress for 6 of the last 8 years wanted, this would have never happened.

  2. Rocky Says:

When did republicans put the gloves on? We’re in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, republicans have controlled Congress for 12 of the last 14 years and the White House for 20 of the last 28 years, and it’s all the Democrats fault? Hardly.

Let’s review. Throughout the 90’s, we got good government, unparalleled growth, lower taxes, smaller government, and the 90’s ended with a budget surplus. Just a scant 8 years later, after two stolen elections, terrorist attacks, two wars that we’re losing — at present, mounting national debt (10 Trillion dollars as of Sept. 30), natural and man-made disasters, and a crisis that threatens to shake the United States off its world leadership position both morally and economically, republicans want to blame the weak-and-worthless Democrats in Congress for all the problems. As if Pelosi and Reid have gotten anything done — or have we all already forgotten how the meme this election season was supposed to be how the 110th managed to get less done than the do-nothing 109th?

It took larding up the bailout bill to the tune of $140 Billion more of OUR TAX DOLLARS in PORK to get the republicans on board, plain and simple. The Democrats tried to pass the bill without the pork, and John “bring home the bacon” Boehner in conjunction with Sen. McSame stopped it cold. Not enough waste! Not enough profligate spending! Experts are predicting that the bailout bill barely begins to cover the real cost of the economic crisis, and we have about $2 Trillion ahead of us. Why wait ’til there’s no more money? Get it now!

You leave out the culprits in this matter, McCrazy’s economic advisor and potential Treasury Secretary Phil Gramm, and former Goldman Sachs CEO and current Treasury Secretary Paulson.

This video asks “What Just Happened?” and the answer is simple. The republican policies of the past three decades have come home to roost, or as Barack Obama put it, this is the final verdict on “trickle-down” economics. You’d think that with the history of the Wall Street shenanigans that lead to the Great Depression, we would have learned… but instead, we let the same irresponsible behavior, coupled with crooked government, wreak the same havoc. And just like the last time, its the republicans who will take the blame and suffer the consequences (think permanent Democratic majority, you wanna-be Roves) and its the Democrats that will save the country — and the world.

On a lighter note :) I’m glad that California Conservative didn’t just disappear from the blogosphere. I believe that blogs have taken the mantel of the first draft of history from newspapers, and it is important to have differing viewpoints presented so that in generations to come, we have some ability to look back and answer questions like “how come nobody saw it coming?” and “what did you do, Granpa, to stop the republicans from spending my birthright?”

  4. matthew Says:

I guess if Barney Frank or Maxine Waters was running for President it would be a good ad.
Also, Obama is just going to come right back and say that McCains Chief of Staff in the Senate was a lobbyist for Freddie Mac. And McCains campaign manager, Rick Davies, also has ties to Fannie and Freddie.

And the “McCain tried to warn us in 2005″ story isnt going to fly either. It was Chuck Hagels bill. McCain only jumped on board as a cosponsor in May 2006 when the bubble began to pop, and the political winds were shifting.

I think the Republicans need to do a little bit of soul searching.

  5. T A Gray Says:

And for the last two years, while their party was in control of the House poor Barney Frank, and poor Charlie Wrangel, had to just set there in the dark, fat dumb and happy taking their bribe money fom Fannie Mae, completely unaware of the train wreck that was coming their way despite warnings from the CEO’s of Fanny and Freddy and the evil George Bush no less.

Nice revision of History there Rocky, classic Leninism.

With all due respect, you dont know shit from Shinola.

In the first place, it was Boehner who had the guts to stand up to Pelosi and others and force the bacon out of the original bill, which was voted down anyway by a coalition of conservative Republicans AND not a few Democrats, including Bob Filner of San Diego, who cleary saw the dangerous direction this bailout is taking us.
So dont give me this partison sheep shit! This is about choosing between nationalizing the mortgage sector over letting free market forces weed out the bad apples.

Stiffle market forces at your own risk. Thats what Congress did by forcing Fannie and Freddy and the banks from taking on all those bad risk loans. And this bailout will come back and bite us all in the ass again not just Democrats.

But lets talk about the sweeteners, lets see here 110 billion for Puerto Rican Rum subsidies, and toy arrows(?), well that sure is two crucial, and very crirtical industries to our survival. Then there’s an additional 3.8 million for mental health. Our grandchildren are going to need that when they realize what dumbasses we all were!

  6. Michael Ejercito Says:

Also, Obama is just going to come right back and say that McCains Chief of Staff in the Senate was a lobbyist for Freddie Mac. And McCains campaign manager, Rick Davies, also has ties to Fannie and Freddie.

Obama himself took money from Fannie and Freddie.

Nice revision of History there Rocky, classic Leninism.

Rocky claims the presidential elections were stolen.

  7. matthew Says:

    Michael Ejercito,
    That is exactly my point.
McCain will just look like a hypocrite if he starts pointing fingers at Obama.
The Democrats will just throw it right back in McCains face!

McCains ethics are not clean enough to be throwing stones.
It may rally the base, but thats all.

    Part II:

If your a Democrat and not pissed at what went on last week, your got your head up your ass.

If your a Republican and not pissed at what went on last week, you got your head waaaay up your ass!

Because what we saw last week was a complete abdication of adult leadership. Truth be told the actions and leadership shown by Obama and McCain alike were equally dismal, DISMAL!

The only person in the media that seemed to realize it was Jay Leno’
when he said it was an action by a failed President and a failed Congress to save a failed Banking system, so how could that fail? (pa-dump-dump- tish!)

  9. WeeBleats Says:

    Sen. John McCain [R-AZ]:

Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.

The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.

For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

  10. WeeBleats Says:

The Bill died in the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs….the Chairman of the Committee is Chris Dodd, the recipient of the largest donations from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

McCain called for reform of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

Video of Fannie Mae CEO calling Obama and Dems family:

  11. matthew Says:

    WeeBleats,
The whole “McCain tried to warn everyone in 2005″ is bunk.
It was Chuck Hagels bill in 2005. Mccain didn’t jump on board until almost a year later in May 2006 when the bubble was beginning to pop and the political winds were changing.
Please do some reading on the subject, and quit relying on YouTube for your source of news!!!

  12. T A Gray Says:

“Rocky claims the presidential elections were stolen.”

All that means Michael is that he’s probably watching the way this one is being run as if its in Chicago and probably figures thats the way its always been.

  13. Rocky Says:

Well, not exactly T.A. Al Gore won in Florida in 2000, which was ultimately proven. Now, there’s mounting evidence that Ohio was stolen from Kerry, delivering the White House, once again, to Bush. I think we can certainly say that the republicans have learned a thing or two from Mayor Daley.

Likewise, Wee. Dodd has been chairman only since the Democrats took Congress back in 2007. The chair whilst this bill was in subcommittee was Richard Shelby (R-AL). And, since the republicans have blocked every meaningful piece of legislation since they took back Congress, there has been little movement on undoing any of the immoral and possibly criminal deregulation of the banking industry. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the Chairman when all of the deregulation passed was — you guessed it — Phil Gramm.

I think we can begin to see the depth of the hot water McCrazy has gotten himself into. On every major issue, McDeregulator has a friend — or lobbyist — in trouble, whether Randy Scheunemann and Georgia, Phil Gramm and banking, or Rick Davis and Freddie Mac. And now that Tina Fey connected the dots for the all-important 18 - 34 age group on Saturday Night Live, Sarah Palin is nothing more than a detriment to the campaign despite having saved her place in last week’s debate (and that’s all she accomplished — according to the polls). Just wait ’til her trash starts coming out, like her witchdocter/pastor, her “first dude’s” involvement with domestic terrorists (that Alaskan Separatist group itself should prove fertile ground!), and how she’s just like every other crooked republican, already under investigation after only 20 months in office.

Well, at least we know why McLame’s campaign has gone so negative… he ain’t got nothin’ left!

  14. T A Gray Says:

Anyone whose read Sol Alinski, knows whats behind SNL’s drum beat against Palin.

And yes, Republicans were in charge, but again you conveniantly ignore the fact that the subprime debacle was a bi partisan effort. About the only thing the crooked bastards on your side agreed with Republicans on.

Drink your cool aid, its getting warm.
