Has there ever been a study to the contrary?
Would it get published?

When you can’t win people over politically, appeal to their wallets. At least that’s how this story reads.

InsideBayArea.com reports:

“WHEN EMPLOYERS treat same-sex couples equally with heterosexual couples, they create a more productive and satisfied work force, according to a recent study from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.

This leads to increased job satisfaction and job retention, reducing recruitment and training costs for companies, according to the study’s co-authors at UCLA’s Williams Institute. Those gains would outweigh new costs for benefits, according to the study.”

Fair enough. But what are we talking about, 3-4% of the total population? Which translates into how many employees?

That might be like going into China and telling businessmen to worry about special rights for blonde Norwegian employees in the workforce. Not going to fly, gay or not.

It seems that they broke the stick at the polls, so now they’re trying the carrot:

The UCLA report’s co-author Gary J. Gates claimed that if gay couples were allowed to marry, that alone would generate $2 billion dollars for local businesses in the wedding industry.

“Places that allow same-sex couples to marry have reported noticeable boosts in business for hotels, caterers, florists and other wedding-related businesses,” he wrote.

Maybe they’ll include that in the next ballot initiative to persuade voters with the slogan: “Gay, It’s Good for Business.”
