Study: “Election In the Streets: How the [MSM] Promotes Illegal Immigration”

Save Our State Below is an excerpt from the “Executive Summary” for Media Research Center (MRC) Special Report by Tim Graham, Director of Media Analysis, which was released this morning.

And for the PDF version of the print edition.

The Executive Summary:

Spurred by a passionate public outcry against the tide of illegal immigration, on December 16, 2005, the House of Representatives passed a bill to curb the flow of illegal aliens and give the federal government more responsibility for detaining and deporting them. On that night, ABC, CBS, and NBC didn’t cover the vote. But when left-wing advocacy groups for illegal aliens organized large protests against the House bill in the spring, as the Senate considered its own immigration bill, the networks suddenly, fervently discovered the issue and gave the advocacy groups not a mere soapbox in the park, but a three-network rollout of free air time. Protest coverage, often one-sided, stood in stark contrast to polling data showing that a stricter approach to illegal immigration was broadly popular in the country.

To determine the tone and balance of network coverage of illegal aliens, MRC analysts evaluated every ABC, CBS, and NBC morning, evening, and magazine show news segment on the immigration debate from the outbreak of protest coverage on March 24, 2006 through May 31, 2006. In 309 stories, analysts found the following trends emerged: (continues)

  1. Media Research Center Finds Massive Pro-Illegal Alien Bias In News Reports…

Well, this should be no surprise to anyone who follows this issue. What is surprising is that the majority of Americans want the borders secured, yet the media keeps touting over and over about how we need a “guest worker……

  1. Well, duh!

Why would the media want illegals to be sent packing? They burden our schools, crowd our prisons and generally make life miserable for anyone making less than the median income in the United States. That’s a sure recipe for a donkey return to power.

Why are we not hearing about how many Mexicans lived in Texas when they declared independence? Or in California when they split from Mexico? Or that New Mexico and Arizona were BOUGHT from Mexico, with Mexico’s blessings? Could it be the MSM (DBM) doesn’t want people to think maybe those are legitimate parts of this country, not Mexico? Could it be due to “white guilt”? Could it be because they just flat out hate anything our country does? Who knows?

It’s obvious, though, that their bias is showing.

  2. Mexicans did not live in Texas, a native group called themselves the Tejanos and thought of themselves separate from the Mexicans. Tejanos were the ones to ask the colonialists to settle in texas to get trade communities going before they threw them out because they didn’t like all the whites and how they bread like rabbits and immigrated into texas at astounding rates. It was later in history that the Mexican government claimed Tejanos as their own people.

Look if Mexico takes over California, they will turn it into a third world country – trust me on this.

  3. Except for the cars, I thought half of L.A. already was a Third World country! At least, that’s the way it seemed when I did a Santa gig there in ‘02…

  4. It is Carlos! There are great areas in the city, but there are also many Tijuana-like enclaves that seem to be slowly fusing together into a seperate quasi-states. Maywood is the epicenter of one such state.
