Senatorial Pontificates: The Judging of John Roberts
After sitting through a few hours of feigned intellectual lecturing by Democrats in the Senate on Monday, Judge John Roberts issued his own unscripted remarks to close out the day’s hearing at the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing. So well articulated was Roberts that Ted Kennedy could be seen with a perpetual “Oh, Damn… this isn’t happening, this isn’t happening… is it Happy Hour yet?” look on his face.
Ted Kennedy’s questions to Roberts: $.02
Ted Kennedy’s designer shoes: $400.00
Look on Kennedy’s face after Robert’s remarks: $$$ PRICELESS
The “Honorable” Senator from California Diane Feinstein has issued her public statement about the Judge Roberts hearings for his Supreme Court nomination. Here are some of her comments:
It is clear that Judge Roberts is brilliant and has a strong legal background. However, as the Senate evaluates Judge Roberts for the position of Chief Justice, I think it is essential to determine whether he will be a leader who can generate consensus and find compromise, as well as embody the mainstream of American legal thinking.
This is what terrifies the left: the Supreme Court has nothing to do with elections, votes or elections. They must interpret the Constitution, not legislate from the bench, a liability for liberalism.
The person who occupies the seat of Chief Justice needs to see that justice is provided to all Americans, men and women of all races and creeds, rich and poor, weak and powerful, Democrats and Republicans, young and old.
If this is truly her belief, why is she trying to subvert the will of the American people who elected Pres. Bush twice and interfere with the nomination of his appointee? She wants to represent ONLY the liberal extremists of America.
In addition, many other important issues are just over the horizon, including the rights of enemy combatants; the so-called federal “partial birth” abortion ban; and whether Congress has the authority to protect our nation’s environment through legislation.
Senator Feinstein is more concerned about the “rights” of enemy combatants, i.e., terrorists, and the environment than unborn American babies so their mother’s can have the “right” to have their brains sucked out of their skulls upon birth!
For me, one of the most important issues that needs to be addressed by Judge Roberts is the constitutional right to privacy.
I am concerned by a trend on the Court to limit this right and curtail womens autonomy. It would be very difficult for me to vote to confirm someone to the Supreme Court whom I knew would overturn Roe v. Wade.
I remember what it was like when abortion was illegal. As a college student, I watched the passing of the plate to collect money so young women could go to Tijuana for an abortion. I knew a woman who ended her life because she was pregnant.
Democrats are terrified that Roe v. Wade could be overturned. It is the sacrament of the religion of Liberalism. It embodies (no pun intended) their ideology: self is god. She knew a women who committed suicide because she was pregnant? Ah, the curse of children! The curse of posterity and life! That poor woman! Who ever it was that “made” her get pregnant should be sued.
The Founding Fathers created a balance in the Constitution that provided for freedom of worship as well as for separation of church and state. In their efforts to protect against religious persecution, the Framers established a secular government that would remain separate from religion.
However, these basic principles could be severely weakened or unraveled depending on the Court’s allowing government funding of religious education, prayer in school, and the display of religious symbols on public property and land.
The separation of Church and State, sadly for Ms. Feinstein, is not a Constitutional issue, but rather a private one (talk about the right to privacy!). Thomas Jefferson wrote a private letter to a Baptist minister concerned about not being able to worship freely in which Jefferson described the separation of Church and State in the context of the state not oppressing religion. But why confuse rhetoric with the facts?
Sen. Joe Biden from Delaware, who bitterly sucked up to Roberts with gushing compliments about his previous remarks, acknowledged the genius that is Judge Roberts. In keeping with the liberal left, Biden continued to berate, talk over and be rude to the future Supreme Court Justice.
The Democrats have appointed themselves the Pope of democracy, minus the consensus from God. They are so inflated with their own sense of self-importance that they have become their own worst enemy. Thank God.
