No Appeasing Democrats: Schwarzenegger Proves It Doesn’t Pay To Be Conciliatory

Arnold and Mickey MouseEspecially when your liberal opponents are Mickey Mousing around…

It’s been only a few days since Schwarzenegger announced on Friday that he was quitting his role as the executive editor of two body building magazines “amid a storm of criticism about his lucrative moonlighting.”

State Sen. Jackie Speier, D-Hillsborough, called on Schwarzenegger to end his financial ties to the magazines, saying they gave the appearance of a conflict of interest.”

Although we can be certain the title is more honorary than anything else (it’s unlikely that Arnold is doing any “heavy-lifting” for this position) because he’s had the relationship with publisher Joe Weider for 30 years, he was willing to back off to assure the public.

When I became governor, I pledged to put the people of California front and center,” Schwarzenegger said in a press release announcing his decision. “I don’t want there to be any question or doubt that the people have my full devotion.”

But for some that’s not good enough.

Yesterday, the Governor’s opponents (the same critics) came in for attack from another angle:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was hit with another ethics complaint over his magazine contracts Tuesday, while a judge threatened to hold him in contempt of court for suspending the state’s hospital staffing rules.” AP reports.

The ethics complaint, filed by the California Democratic Party, was the second to allege Schwarzenegger broke state ethics laws by serving as a paid consultant to fitness magazines that derive most of their profits from the nutritional supplements industry.”

Let’s repeat all together: smoke screen.

Liberal strategy: First, get him to resign. Then file a lawsuit, while pointing to the resignation as an admittance of wrongdoing. Goal: Confuse the public.

It’s a diversionary tactic by political players who are the champions of the status quo and don’t want us talking about the reforms we need to get California back on track,” said Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Margita Thompson.

Indeed. The greater story is what the “champions of the status quo” are up to: Democrats like Bill Lockyer.
