Rep. Charlie Rangel: “I Wanted To Get People Distracted To Understand”
Confusion is a common Democratic strategy.
On FOXNews’ Hannity & Colmes this evening, Rep. Charlie Rangel - (D) New York, was taken to task by Sean Hannity for pointedly referring to President Bush as a racist. Basically, Rangel backpedals.
As we reported last week, speaking at a town hall meeting of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Rangel declared: “George Bush is our Bull Connor.” This was received with wild applause.
(Bull Connor was the Birmingham, Ala., police commissioner whose resistance to the civil rights movement became synonymous with Southern racism) UPDATE: As reader, Chris McGarrigal also points out: Connor was a Democrat.
Tonight, when asked why he didn’t criticize Ray Nagin, the (black) mayor of New Orleans who failed miserably at managing the evacuation of citizens, Rangel dodged giving Hannity a straight answer (as usual).
However, Alan Colmes posed the issue like this: “When you compare the President to Bull Connor, people get distracted…”
To which Rangel quickly interjected: “I wanted to get people distracted to understand…”
Playing to the strength of his audience. No doubt.

Rep. Charlie Rangel Calls President Bush
A Southern Racist

Too bad that Rangel’s reputation for lies and distortion precede him. Tell me Mr. Rangel, how do you distract people to get them to understand the issues? The only way to get people to understand the “issues” is to put the facts squarely in front of them, tell them how you interpret these facts, and then you listen to their response. It’s called Democracy, Mr. Rangle, just in case you forgot!

Getting people distracted is the only way Rangel’s party can succeed. If they ever put the facts in front of their supporters, their supporters would switch parties.

“Distracted to understand”?
Wow. What an intellectual strategy.

You call that backpedaling? I call it changing the subject. There’s nothing to point to there that will persuade any of Rep. Rangel’s supporters.

Why would a person with rational faculties pay any attention to anything Sean Hannity or Alan Colmes have to say? Their entire act is scripted by some anonymous Murdoch pundit.
PS
Charlie Rangel is my rep and I’ve voted for him every time. He’s a man of the people who isn’t afraid to stand up and take risks to give voice to the common people.
Whatever distract in order to understand means (maybe that people have the wrong focus), Ray Nagin doesn’t need any criticism. His city’s been wiped off the map.
Compassionate conservatism, Eddie Withers and Howard Roark.

Florinda,
Reading your comment about “rational faculties” (which requires critical analysis) and “anonymous Murdoch pundit,” (vast right-wing conspiracy?) while at the same time describing Rangel as a “man of the people” (what people?) and dismissing his comments as “whatever it means” (hear no evil), I’ve concluded you are deluded and ignorant.
It does not surprise than to discover that your are a teacher from NY. http://www.blogger.com/profile/4897657
God help the minds you are indoctrinating with blinded-liberalism.

Ray Nagin doesn’t need any criticism. His city’s been wiped off the map.
I don’t understand. Nagin lives in Dallas, and Dallas is fine — a little warm the last couple of days…
When the s* hit the fan, Ray Nagin s* himself, used the emergency plan to wipe up, sent twenty thousand people to “shelter” in a football stadium with no water, no food, no security, and no way out, then gave his cops a week off and “lit out for Texas”.
He isn’t stupid. He isn’t even totaly incompetent. He simply hit his Peter Principle limit, and failing to understand and account for that in the After Action Report will cause supposedly-corrective measures to be taken that will make things worse instead of better and kill more people. Treating an account of what he failed to do as an attack on him, let alone a racist attack, simply piles horrid on bad-enough.
Regards,
Ric

But let’s give some credit: Ray Nagin is a man of good taste.

Florindo eats babies, rapes nuns, and tortures kittens for pleasure.
But it’s okay for me to slander him because it got his attention, right?

Please clarify, I believe it should read:
(Bull Connor was the Birmingham, Ala., DEMOCRAT police commissioner whose resistance to the civil rights movement became synonymous with Southern racism).

As I mentioned earlier, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina led to quite a few ridiculous claims of racism from liberals against conservatives because…well, the reason isn’t terribly clear, except that New Orleans’ poor areas were hard-hit by floodi…

[...] Just look at Jackson, Rangel, Sharpton, all the usual suspects. They make race the central issue of every demand. Look to the L.A. mayoral race last year. Look no further than Dick Morris‘ latest book, which he’s been peddling aggressively for months. Premise: Condi “is the best candidate to beat Hillary,” but not just because she’s a women, but because she’s black. Agree or disagree, Morris makes his argument. [...]
