Have any of you considered, for a moment, that the reason support for continued occupation of Iraq is dwindling is because of our success.

Saddam Hussein is as dead as Rachel Corrie; he will not be coming back. Mayn Americans do not see the point of staying there after Hussein had been dealt with for all time.

What if George Washington had thought that?

What if Abe Lincoln agreed with you?

America might still be a land with slavery and living under the British flag.

Imagine a football game where the players die at a rate of two or three per quarter. Imagine a football game where two tackles, one outside linebacker, and the free safety are actually members of the opposing team, performing sneak attacks on their teammates at random moments; meanwhile, on the offense, both guards and the tight end don't want to play, so they just stand around and watch. Imagine a football game where the fans throw IEDs on the field.

Iraq is a game where our allies are rife with opponents of the American presence as well as people who just want a job and don't want to die doing it. Half the team, the Iraqi Security Forces half, are at best unreliable and at worst the enemy. And we don't know which half is which. The vast majority of the fans, the Iraqi people, want us to leave...or lose...or just die.

War is not a game but, in games and war, there are times when the best strategy is to cut you losses and the worst strategy is to leave the first string in there to get beaten to death.
