Pelosi: “You Can’t Handle the Truth”

The politics of the pot calling the kettle black.

I’ve seen Nancy Pelosi make some asinine statements this past year, but her floor speech Friday night is as atrocious as it gets. Here are a few highlights from Ms. Pelosi’s speech last Friday night:

Mr. Speaker, this is a sad day for this House of Representatives. Just when you think you have seen it all, the Republican majority has stooped to a new low, even for them. They have engaged in an act of deception that undermines any shred of dignity that might be left in this Republican Congress. But deception has been the order of the day throughout the entire Iraq engagement. Mr. Hunter’s resolution is a continuation of that deception. It is a political stunt and it should be rejected by this House.

Ms. Pelosi, It’s disgraceful that you define deception as having Democrats go ont he record with their votes on the essence of the Murtha Retreat. That isn’t deception. It’s called putting your cards on the table and, as I’ve said elsewhere, it’s done all the time in the real world. Here in the heartland, we think that being transparent is the only way to live.

We don’t think that it’s unreasonable to say what we mean and mean what we say. That concept must be lost on the average Democrat. No wonder your party can’t win statewide or national elections with any consistency.

It is an insult to the integrity of Jack Murtha: one of the most distinguished members to ever serve in the House of Representatives. As has been said, Jack Murtha is a decorated war veteran: two Purple Hearts, the Bronze star for his combat service, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, 37 years in active and reserve service in the Marines.

Yeys, Murtha’s all those things but the policy recommendation is still short-sighted.

That is why the Republican attack on him is so dishonest. Mr. Murtha has dealt the mighty blow of truth to the President’s failed Iraq policy. The American people have rallied to Jack Murtha’s message of truth. But (to Republican colleagues) ‘you can’t handle the truth.’ Why are the Republicans so afraid of the facts?..Indeed, Mr. Murtha’s action to speak truth to power is a great act of patriotism.

Ms. Pelosi, Your bluster doesn’t pass the laugh test. If the “American people have rallied to Jack Murtha’s message of truth”, then why not vote to ratify this sense of the House resolution? If there’s this great momentum change to support Mr. Murtha’s stated position, then this vote should’ve been the easiest vote you’ve ever had to make.

Ms. Pelosi’s insinuation that the Republicans are “so afraid of the facts” is downright laughable. The Republicans have held fast to the same pro-war position throughout. That’s the truth. It’s Democrats who’ve changed their minds. It’s Democrats who can’t handle the truth, at least not for any sustainable period of time.

Mr. Murtha’s comments aren’t the articulation of any great truth. They’re the enunciation of a declaration of retreat. That’s hardly the definition of “speaking truth to power.”

  1. Mescalero Says:

The California Democrats (Stalinocrats) are well known for being mis-informed as well as brain-dead. Pelosi and her corrupt likes are just the tip of the iceberg! Since when has she, Barbara “brain-dead” Boxer, and Diane “married to a gangster” Feinstein ever represented the people of California?
