“Peace Movement” Is Not So Peaceful: Photos from San Francisco

Bush is the symptom. Capitalism is the disease.
Revolution is the cure.

So read a sign that we saw carried around by one of yesterday’s parading moonbats. Actually, to be honest, he was sitting outside of a coffee shop, drinking a tall latte. But no matter. A footsoldier needs energy.

The sign was sponsored by a Socialist organization. (Clearly they’re very not at all concerned about “bringing our troops home.”)

Iraq is merely an excuse, and Cindy Sheehan is a pawn. These subversives are fighting against the establishment. Anarchy is the ANSWER they’re looking for.

SF Indymedia writes: “Today through San Francisco about 50,000 of us [Chronicle reports 20,000, but cares about accuracy when you're leading a revolution] marched to the beat of anti-war drums, to protest the Occupation of Iraq and the White House. Here’s the video (6.87MB).”

If Iraq is like Vietnam, how come the rallies keep getting smaller?

While anti-war activists hoped their rally yesterday would be the “largest peace rally in the nation’s capital since the Vietnam War,” it doesn’t seem they reached their goal. In order to make the rally seem larger than it was…

The “513 years” sign is priceless. Unless it’s being carried by a native American, what are they doing in SFO? (or on this continent for that matter…) Go back to Europe! ;-) I’m sure North Korea would be happy to take in the rest of ‘em, e.g., the folks carrying the first sign (”F#%k Capitalism”). Nice work CC.

  4. ubrayj02 Says:

It is amazing how, in writing about people who have very strong opinions that they openly express, it appears you have totally failed to understand what they were saying.

I don’t think that what these protesters were saying was particularly rational, or well thought out, but still they do make some valid points about the state of affairs in America today.

For example, the “fuck capitalism” sign is obviously meant to provoke everyone. I don’t think it will work, because everyone with a job knows that capitalism is here to stay. Yet “Capitalism” has been used as a blunt rhetorical weapon to excuse a poor social security network, and to kill programs that collectively help everyone.

It doesn’t seem that you tried to take in anything, or even attempt to understand, what these people were trying to say. The pictures are great though, so kudos for that, I guess.

  9. Ben Varkentine Says:

Do you mind if I ask how, on this issue, you can consider yourself either silent or a majority?

I’m told the anti-war rally in D.C. drew between 300,000 (the organizers “guesstimate”) and 150,000 (according to the D.C. police chief). The pro-war rally is said to have drawn a few hundred. Not “pro military family,” as that implies that to be against this war is to be anti-military family, and I don’t believe that. Nor, I’d imagine, do the military families who showed up at the anti-war demonstration.

But boy, those photos of an anti-war protest in San Francisco sure does make it look irrational, doesn’t it? Much more so than a war that has now cost 1,900 Americans their lives, and from which a majority of Americans now want some or all troops wiithdrawn.

  11. Nahanni Says:

The anti war crowds made up of professional protesters for the most part financed by *GASP* capitalist pigs like Tereza Heinz, George Soros and Ben & Jerry’s, professional students who have spent 20 years getting degrees while racking up hundreds of thousands in debt and the “rage against my trust fund allowance” types. They don’t have to work because work is for “captalist pigs” like the majority of this country. They just sit there and suck off their trust fund/taxpayer paid student loan/corporate sponsors teats.

The folks at the (as you call it) “Pro War rally” actually have things like jobs and families, thus not as many could attend as would have liked to. I know I would have gone if I had the time off from work. These people represent the majority of Americans, not that hygenically challenged professional protester rabble we saw at the Anti American rally.

BTW-please do not try to quote me numbers from MSM “opinion polls”, they are not true opinion polls. All you have to do is look at the particulars of them to find that they are skewed. The only ones who believe them are people like you who want to believe them.

    One other thing….

Would you prefer 1 million dead in San Francisco, Seattle, Boston or New York? After listening to idiots like you I am getting to the point where I am going to start rooting for your heros Osama and Kim Il Jung. As long as they take out those cities AND you all I will have to say is No. Great. Loss.

I am sure you would be happy to die in an attack on this country-that way you can die for your beliefs.

  12. V the K Says:

  13. wordsmith Says:

Ahaha….I clicked onto that “513 years of military invasion photo” to take a closer look, and it’s so ridiculous. Such as listing “Japan” for one of our military invasions.

  14. Ben Varkentine Says:

Would I prefer 1 million dead in San Francisco, Seattle, Boston or New York? No.

I would prefer a foreign policy that decreased, rather than increased the odds of that happening.

If your goal is to change minds, you’ve failed. (And insulting people on sites like this won’t help - was your mind ever changed when someone said “fuck you” to you? Have you ever in your life said, hmm, he said “fuck me”, maybe I should reexamine my belief system now? ). If your goal is to make sure you remain marginalized forever, so you can complain and never achieve a position of authority where you would be held accountable for what you accomplish (or fail to), then: Job Well Done!

But at least you are as offended by your own condescending smartass comments as by others, right?

These people represent the majority of Americans, not that hygenically challenged professional protester rabble we saw at the Anti American rally.”

It was a SUNDAY. How many people missed the rally because they had to work? I think a much more likely reason is the fact that the rally was held in DC, which is an overwhelmingly antiwar town. Stop trying to insult every American who finds our foreign policy misguided as lazy and shiftless hippies who don’t shower. I have a job (two, actually). I shower. I disagree with Bush sometimes. This does not make me a communist or an ignorant pothead. Your comments are as ignorant as those on KOS that compare every Republican to a fundamentalist who believes the Bible to be the literal history of the earth. Both of these groups are EXTREMISTS. They are not the mainstream. Why do sites like this insist that these fringe elements represent every one of the 49% of America that voted for Kerry, or the 51% that didn’t? This country is not BLACK…. and WHITE…. There are many, many schools of thought in between.

  27. DaveP. Says:

“Why do sites like this insist that these fringe elements represent every one of the 49% of America that voted for Kerry, or the 51% that didn’t?”

Um, gee, tom: Couldn’t be because the Kerry people and the DNC campaigned directly TO people like the ones carrying those offensive signs, including sending voter-registration workers to antiwar rallies and accepting massive amounts of donations and volunteer time from avowed anti-American antiwar protest organization MOVEON.COM? When that happens, why can’t the owner of this site connect “FUCK CAPITALISM” and the 48% who voted for Kerry? Or are we supposed to ignore that because the truth makes you unhappy?
And, Tom… if you make common cause with “unwashed, lazy hippies” (not to mention the American Nazi Party, which agrees 100% with you about America’s foreign policy), don’t be upset if you get identified with unwashed hippy-type people. Want to be taken seriously? Seperate yourself.

“Couldn’t be because the Kerry people and the DNC campaigned directly TO people like the ones carrying those offensive signs, including sending voter-registration workers to antiwar rallies and accepting massive amounts of donations and volunteer time from avowed anti-American antiwar protest organization MOVEON.COM?”

Kerry campaigned TO anyone who would vote for him. His statements frequently contradicted themselves because he would appeal one day to the antiwar fringe and the next day to mainstream America. Now for the shocking part. So. did. Bush. Videos were sent to churches across America promoting Bush as the godly candidate. He made numerous statements against gay marriage and against stem cell research. He also publicly announced that he would not favor a constitutional amendment banning marriage. His administration announced that there was evidence to suggest global warming was occuring. Both of these candidates tried to appeal to everyone.

“if you make common cause with “unwashed, lazy hippies” (not to mention the American Nazi Party, which agrees 100% with you about America’s foreign policy), don’t be upset if you get identified with unwashed hippy-type people. Want to be taken seriously? Seperate yourself.”

I have made common cause with many groups. I don’t believe in regulation of firearms. Thus I make common cause with the NRA. I don’t believe the federal government should instruct states as to which medical procedures they can provide. Thus I make common cause with abortion clinic bombers. So, by your logic, I am a gun toting hippy who bombs abortion clinics when not marching in drum circles. It is impossible to seperate myself from every group in America, Dave. If I did so, I would be a part of yet another group — Ted Kazynski’s. Maybe, just maybe, I’m actually not that easily pigeonholed. Maybe most Americans aren’t. I don’t assume that every person on this site is a racist shotgun toting redneck who wants to kill every Arab and black person in America. Try to do the same.

  30. California Conservative Says:

How about a “racist shotgun toting” Arab who wants to kill every Christian in America? Or maybe a black that wants to kill every asian? Or a hispanic that wants to kill blacks?

Just saying. Mix it up a little.

But thanks for your comments and continued readership.

  31. Tom in Texas Says:

    Mr. Conservative;

Somehow I doubt that a racist Arab, black, or hispanic would frequent your site. There are other outlets for their amusement. I only wanted to emphasize that every person here is NOT racist, or a fundamentalist. I don’t believe every Republican is. I know several, living in the great state of TX, and 99.99% of them are good, God fearing people. Believe me, I go to “progressive” sites and berate those who claim to be tolerant and yet denigrate all who disagree with them. I would do so at KOS, and in fact used to, but I’ve been banned from their site for being a “troll”. Apparently if you don’t march in lockstep with them you are a horribly eveil subversive who cannot have their voice heard — rather ironic from people who have such passion for the first amendment. Unfortunately I have to go to work, but I’ll check and reply to this later tonite, if you see fit to continue conversation.

  39. LASunsett Says:

This movement is made up of two distinct groups.

The first group is made up of older adults that were part of the Vietnam protesting community, back when they were in college. Today they are in middle age, their life means very little, and they are seeking to find that lost youth. Many, like Cindy Sheehan, are going through their mid life crisis and are regressing into an earlier stage of their lives, because that is the only time in their life, they felt useful.

And the second group is a bunch uneducated kids, either going to college or are dropouts from society, producing very little, if anything at all. They think they know it all, but do not have the presence of mind to know that they are sheep, being led astray by the first group.

    What a waste of humanity.

All I can imagine in thinking about the poor saps in this parade of protoplasm is:
“Oh, beat the drum slowly, and play the fife lowly
And play the dead march as you carry me along…”
