We are never going to have a coherent energy policy or a reduction in reliance on foreign sources of energy until the pols stop listening to the whiners who say "Not in my Backyard," and really mean anywhere in the 50 states. We need to drill, build refining capacity, add to nuclear generation, and (yes, Ted K) build windfarms off the Massachusetts coast.

I wish our elected officials would stop playing the blame game and start working together so they can actually accomplish something. Our energy problems aren't going to go away by themselves. Bush's energy policies need to be taken seriously. We need to open up our resources close to home (i.e. ANWR) and start incorporating alternative energy sources such as Nuclear power - solar power - wind power and so on before it is too late.

I couldn't agree more. Let's hear a proactive plan instead of knee-jerk Bush bashing. And you're right, ElGrande, we need to be talking a lot more about nuclear energy and about opening up ANWR, the Outer Continental Shelf and the Rockies...

Agreed, it's a cheapshot. What did the Dems do for 8 years of Clinton's administration that advanced any real alternatives to foreign oil?

Leaving out nuclear power development here at home is a big mistake. It's by far the most efficient form of energy, has the smallest footprint (even accounting for the waste) and new technology has made it safer and cleaner than ever.

But, just like with ANWR or off-shore drilling, the enviros and the Dems refuse to consider this reasonable source of energy in favor of the political gains of bashing Bush.

Great post. Bush has released several "energy policies" that work to get us away from oil...even in his first term he increased funding for alternative energy research.
