Murtha Seeks House Leadership
Just another reason to vote GOP in November.
Representative John Murtha says that he will throw his hat into the ring for Majority leader, should Democrats win control of the House in November. Representative Murtha has been a very vocal, albeit misguided critic of the Iraq war and President Bush, and has been lobbying for the immediate withdrawal of our troops for months.
The Washington Post says that “Murtha did not explain the timing of the letter or why he was suddenly itching to climb the leadership ladder.” However, it should be clear to everyone that his ambition is intimately related to his disapproval of the war. Should Murtha win the seat, he would likely push hard for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. As far as timing, I don’t think it’s coincidental that Murtha, the man who has worked so hard to condemn Marines in Haditha prior to an investigation or trial, chose to make the announcement in response to the death of Zarqawi, and the appointment of a full cabinet. Perhaps he doesn’t want to look like a fool as Iraq continues to become more stable, more secure, and more independent. As positive reports emerge, he has to tighten up his staunch anti-victory stance.
Like I said, just another reason to vote GOP in November.
