"Compassion, caring about others, working for a better world… you know, what used to be called bettering humanity..."

Compassion comes from the heart, Rocky, not from the guvmint. Where in the Constitution does it talk about it being the guvmint's job to "care about others"? "Working for a better world" is simply newspeak for giving Uncle Sugar more power to run every aspect of my life.

You see, Rocky, there are some of us who believe it is a choice to feel compassion, a choice to care, a choice to work to improve the lives of those around us and, consequently, improve the world. It is not and never has been the duty of the guvmint to smooth out "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" so everyone is on equal footing no matter what the effort.

Those who do not choose compassion, caring or improving the world are the less for it. Those who use those phrases as a means to gain power are toads at best, empty beings at worst and never to be trusted.

It's a tired, worn cliche, but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. (Some) Liberals have the best of intentions. From a conservative, independent point of view, most of those intentions are either witless or a cover for evil.

And, oh, BTW, I believe I already pay enough for my insurance. Why would I want to pay for insurance for anyone else? I'm broke already!

"San Franciscans think everyone deserves health care, for the bargain price of a little more than $200 per month, per person insured?"

Really. First of all, it's a program the *doesn't* benefit everyone; only those who are "eligible" - and in liberal terms, that means don't work, because if you show income, you don't qualify.

Secondly, $200/per month? When was the last time you went to a doctor. A simple visit to the dentist for a check up was near that amount. The typical billable hour for a doctor is over $100. So, how is that going to add up? Or are you proposing that gov't legislates the cost of how much a doctor charges? (Lawyers would love that, especially considering their billable hours)

Finally, "Newsom’s Care not Cash program has achieved real results."

What planet are you living on? Here's the truth, reported by S.F. Chronicle no less.

Meanwhile, Newsom is busy trying to emulate his hero, Bill Clinton.

Make change. Don't hand it out.

Right here's a city with a school board that has banned JROTC, tried to ban the Blue Angels (do they still even have a Fleet Week?) and lets not forge the great civic leader Mr. Sandeval who tried to coerce a local radio station by attempting to pass a County Ordnance forcing a local radio station to fire Michael Savage over a sacastic comment he made about immigration rights protesters threating to starve themselves. Its also no secret that if you dare go aginst the San Francisco gay and lesbian Nazi's, your liable for all kinds of nasty things happening to you.
But I guess gays are not capable of being spiteful.

But hey! Other than srewing everything else up, they haven't figured out yet how to ban scenery, fog, and good Italian and Chinese food yet. If you dont mind walking around all the bums to get to it that is.

Family Values is more than just a slogan, you know.

Why is it that the party of Family Values has so much trouble with the basic elements of family values?

Compassion, caring about others, working for a better world... you know, what used to be called bettering humanity, and has recently come to be known as "core liberal values" (best said with a slightly condescending tone). To whit, you'd think the presnit would be a great proponent of child health care. But he's not. Who is? Teddy Kennedy.

Why is it so outlandish and worthy of such mockery, that San Franciscans think everyone deserves health care, for the bargain price of a little more than $200 per month, per person insured? Where is all that money going? Hardly bureaucracy. Its going to pay for that back procedure that workman's comp refuses to cover, for prenatal care, and probably a bunch of other ailments that many San Franciscans can't afford to seek treatment due to the cost of insurance.

Look at it this way: Newsom's Care not Cash program has achieved real results. We should give him the chance to prove his ideas work. He's earned it. We seem to be told daily that we just need to give some other folks a chance, a few more months to make it work (and, oh yeah, if you don't think it will work based on our track record, well, the vice presnit has a few choice words for you).

@Houghton: I'm confused. By "lazy spiteful hatemongers", are you talking about the people in San Francisco, or the people posting comments on this page?

Oh, wait, I guess people who say a city of 750,000 people should "burn" aren't lazy, spiteful hatemongers. They're active, energetic spiteful hatemongers.
