Liberal “Free Speech”: Says Little But Reveals A Lot
Following yesterday’s post about the increasing reports of physical attacks by liberals against conservatives, the issue of “freedom of speech” has come under closer examination.
So what exactly is free speech? Volumes have been written on this question from all sides, so there’s no point in restating it here. But let’s just spend a moment on defining what is NOT speech.
Some from the left may claim that acts of physical aggression (whether throwing pies or pipes) may constitute a “form” of free speech. (See recent comments on this blog) Such a claim is entirely bogus, and even the notion is dangerous for who knows how someone may interpret it.
If some angry activist wants to throw a pie at himself, or beat himself with a shoe or stick as an act of protest against something, this is a perfectly legitimate expression of free speech. In fact, we might highly encourage this behavior. However, throwing any objects at another person is assault, and by no other name.
So why are liberals resorting to this criminal behavior? Maybe because, even with the great freedom of speech at their disposal, they have little to say. Certainly, anything to say with intelligence. Or even humor, for that matter.
Michelle Malkin highlights a few pieces of leftist paraphenalia on her blog today. While showcasing nothing more than an ignorant call to violence, it’s just a small sampling of the hate available for purchase. (Who says liberals hate capitalism?)
With just a few clicks on the Net, I found a handful more examples of the left’s intellectually bankrupt messages:
“Republicans Suck,” “What the GOP really stands for - Greed, Oil and Plunder,” “George Bush is PROOF that God exists…and that he hates us,” “Bush/Satan ‘04 - When evil just isn’t evil enough,” and “W: What a Fucking Idiot.”
As you can see, liberals really put the freedom of speech to excellent use, promoting vulgarity and hate without any substance. Really makes you think about the old saying, “consider the source.”
One more example that really stands out:
“Dear Red State Voters: Yes, you elected our president. Now get your ass back on the farm and grow my lunch.”
Only a “liberal” would insult an entire population like that without shame. Such contempt. Such arrogance. Such elitism revealed. Certainly not the political correctness they demand from everyone else in order to stifle…ironically, free speech.
RELATED: See the inflammatory remarks that Bill Clinton made about a gay Republican who dares to criticize Hillary. As Malkin correctly observes, “Imagine the outcry if President Bush said that about a gay Democrat.”
Where’s the outrage from gay political activists? Don’t say they’re hiding in the closet on this one.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin reports that CafePress.com has removed the “Kill Bush” leftist-propoganda from their store. Let’s hear it for “corporate responsibility.” Bloggers score another one.

Regarding Malkin’s article on the “liberal left” (a term I have to never understood any more than whatever a “christian right” label is supposed to mean) and CafePress, curious as to what people would say to this product on a Republican CafePress created site:
http://www.cafepress.com/republichc.19653595
A product that encourages people to shoot at a past President? I guess one can make a distinction that it’s for toy guns or darts, but at what point do you draw the line when the message is about taking aim at a U.S. President, Senator or Representative, past or present?

Yes, there are offenses on both sides. But the level of vitriol and violence coming from the Left is getting out of hand.
The Bill Clinton dartboard seems rather mild. Darts don’t kill. If liberals want a Bush dartboard, have at it.
But throwing objects at those they disagree with and advocating violence through vulgar “designs” is wrong and unacceptable.
It’s a slippery slope…
Armageddon has a few thoughts on the matter.
