California Legislative Session Meaningless

In last Sunday’s Sacramento Bee, Dan Walters writes:

The Legislature’s handling of any issue of more than ephemeral weight was programmed with its potential effect on the governor and the special election campaign in mind. Democrats sidetracked anything they calculated would improve Schwarzenegger’s battered image - his solar power initiative being a prime example - while lavishing votes on measures that their allies supported, many of which will be vetoed.

The session’s dynamics provided new evidence that the Capitol is a dysfunctional institution, intrinsically incapable of dealing with the issues created by a fast-growing, fast-changing state, and needs fundamental reform.”

It’s nice to see some honest reporting.

Unfortunately, for those of us actively following California politics, this isn’t news — it’s just a sad reminder.

SactoDan hits the nail on the head:

What are we paying these overpriced idealogues for if they won’t do their job? If Prop 77 fails we might as well have a part time legislature. They can easily accomplish nothing in half as much time as it takes them to do nothing now.”

And maybe they’ll only screw things up half as bad.

A great gulf separates the liberal democrats in sacramento from the issues and problems here in southern california where i live and work. Their only interest in southern California is to placate the hispanic voters and their elected leaders thru vote trading and ganging up on the minority republcans. This is how the gay marriage and illegal drivers license bills passed both houses by narrow majorities. This is why nothing gets done in Sacramento regarding the serious problems resulting from illegal immigration which is especially bad here in southern california. Put it simply, the Leftist democrats and their hispanic bretheren in sacramento are willing to let southern cal be overrun with illegal immigration, with all the attendant traffic congestion, rampant overdevelpment, disappearance of green space, and pollution of the environment. It is a sinister mutual compact and Southern cal is the sacrificial victim.
