It’s the Honesty, Stupid
Barack Obama is acting like he doesn’t know why John McCain sent him the sarcastic letter Monday night. In the spirit of bipartisanship, I’d like to suggest something to the gentleman from Illinois on why McCain fired off that letter: It isn’t that McCain’s feelings “got bruised.” It’s about Obama not living up to his word.
“The perception in our office was that this was a very innocuous boilerplate letter,” said Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on Tuesday.
Sen. Obama, that’s the biggest pile of horse manure I’ve come across in ages. It wasn’t innocuous. It was upset and anger at you not keeping your word. When you tell someone that you’re willing to work on a bipartisan lobbying reform bill, only to reneg on that so you can work on a Democrats-only bill, people like Sen. McCain will make you pay for your not keeping your word.
Sen. Obama, you got ripped by Sen. McCain because a man’s word is supposed to be worth something, especially so in the Senate.
Furthermore, for you to act like this wasn’t a big thing is shocking. This isn’t about a disagreement on an issue, which happens all the time in the Senate. This was about the only thing of lasting value: your trustworthiness. Your constituents might not make you pay for this but I’ll guarantee that if you pull a stunt like this again, you’ll be treated like the plague. And you’ll deserve it.
“If people are not serious about this, we’ll know soon enough. And that is the ultimate measure of who is posturing and who is sincere,” Obama said.
Give me a break, Sen. Obama. You talking about sincerity is like Ted Kennedy lecturing people on ethics. It’s all chutzpah, Sen. Obama, and it doesn’t look good on you.

My Daddy Can beat up Your Daddy!
Saying Sen. Obama didn’t live up to his word is like saying any politician doesn’t live up to his word, frankly. Does Obama deserve to have this played out in public? Does any disagreement like this deserve airing, like so much dirty laundry? That it was covered so extensively gives rise to the question, What’s really going on here?
The problem here is that the bipartisan McCain is probably upset that Obama — often cited as a Democratic rising star — is stealing his thunder. I’m posting here becuase Americans, like me, are starting to wonder what is going on in Washington.
McCain has a long, storied history of so-called “reform” that has done little to help either party. Compare McCain’s task force — a “working group” — to a solidly selected and uniquely positioned Ethics Committee. Frankly, when I read this, I wondered who was the conservative and who was the liberal.
It’s time for the Congress to get their priorities straight. Are they there to bicker or do the peoples’ work? Moreover, does McCain think this kingd of behavior elevates him in Conservative eyes? Giving Obama the spotlight like this is just helping him continue his rise in liberal circles. McCain would be better served letting the public see how his plan differs from the Democrats’ and make a case for that. Otherwise, the score is Obama 1, McCain 0.

What we have here is man’s inability to communicate to all concerned. We need people in political office to think “moderate.” There are always two sides to the story. A well balanced approach to any argument will always give people an opportunity to see each others’ perspectives and the result will be peace.
But in order to have this, both sides must give up “self.” Jesus said: “Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven.” We are here on this earth for a short while. Whatever we do, whether it is political, religious, or whatever, Christ will hold us accountable for eternity.
