Illegal Alien Wants Government Protection From Husband; Judge Ignores Law
“A substitute judge hearing the case of an illegal immigrant seeking a restraining order against her husband threatened to turn her over to immigration officials if she didn’t leave his courtroom.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Pro Tem Bruce R. Fink told Aurora Gonzalez during last week’s hearing that he was going to count to 20 and that if she was still in his courtroom when he finished, he would have her arrested and deported to Mexico.
In an interview Wednesday, Fink said that the woman had admitted in court that she was in the country illegally and that he didn’t want her to get in trouble with immigration officials.
“We have a federal law that says that this status is not allowed,” Fink said. “You can’t just ignore it. What I really wanted was to not give this woman any problems.” — L.A. Times, July 19, 2006
You “can’t just ignore it?” Well, he just did.
This story tells the whole problem of illegal aliens. Note that the woman is using county services to protect herself. She wants protection from a husband that is abusing her — and she is using the government of a nation in which she is illegal.
What about the children, the cost of housing, feeding, schooling them? Imagine a judge has someone announce they are here illegally and instead of enforcing the law, he demands she leave, into the arms of an abusive husband — who is helping her become “legal”. Did the judge ask to see her phony ID’s, Social Security cards, ask where she is working? While she is asking the judge to protect her, who is protecting the taxpayers of America from paying for her social welfare needs while here illegally.
What should we do in this case? Punish the judge for throwing her out of court? Punish the Judge for not turning her over to the immigration authorities? Should the woman be deported? Should the woman receive a restraining order? Should the woman be held for using false ID? Lots of questions, few answers.

I think you cannot admit you are illegal to someone in a position of authority, because that makes them liable to do something, like report one.

The husband seems to be a citizen, and the children are, by the 14th amendment.
I think the judge was right in this case. For one thing, everybody else ignores the law - including the folks in DC. Deporting the wife wouldn’t help. On the other hand, if the husband is a bum, he’ll use this to beat her up even more, saying “what you gonna do about it?”.
