Hypocrisy on Parade: New York Times Runs Photo of Dung-Clotted “Virgin Mary”

(via TimesWatch)

Just yesterday the Times wrote in an editorial on the Danish cartoons of Mohammad that “The New York Times and much of the rest of the nation’s news media have reported on the cartoons but refrained from showing them. That seems a reasonable choice for news organizations that usually refrain from gratuitous assaults on religious symbols, especially since the cartoons are so easy to describe in words.”

Apparently the Arts pages didn’t get the memo, because it runs a photo of Chris Ofili’s dung-clotted “Holy Virgin Mary” in Wednesday’s Arts section story by Michael Kimmelman, who calls the Danish cartoons “callous and feeble.”

This is the most striking example yet of the double standard by the Times when it comes to art that offends religious sensibilities.

Combine garbage like the MSM attacks on anything Christian (such as “Piss Christ” and picturing the Virgin Mary in a set of pornography, covered with dung), defending criminals worldwide for rioting because they were “offended”, and such chilling events as the burning of many evangelical churches in Alabama, and I wonder why people of faith haven’t seen that the drive to push Christian faith out of the society has started in earnest?

Separately, each can be explained away. I’m sure that incidents leading to Kristelnacht (or however it’s spelled) were explained away, too. But the writing’s on the wall, and within short years the naziism of liberalism/socialism will spell the next holocaust.

We can blame the A.C.L.U. and moonbats all we want, but ultimately it is ourselves who are to blame, for letting those cancers take hold and grow.

    Carlos,

Some may label your words of caution as “extreme,” but dismissiveness and discrediting such opinions is their strategy. We find there’s merit to your argument.

We’re living in a world that faces a greater conflict than ever before — fighting the enemies of Western establishment within our own land who, by their actions, advance the efforts of terrorists and enemies of freedom in the Middle East. What Islamic radicals can’t accomplish with weapons, the liberals succeed with words — condemning the U.S. and damaging our efforts to promote democracy.

The only thing that right-minded Americans are guilty of is complacency — and for allowing themselves to be led by the agents of political correctness. Free speech has never been more limited. Say what is deemed “appropriate,” but not what you really think. That is practice of most public discourse today.

Our modest little effort is simply to help others, like you, spread the good word. Share ideas. Speak out freely. And let people know that they’re not alone and to do the same. In order to effect change, we must rally together. Our strength is collective, and so must be our efforts.

    Thanks for your readership.
