Hollywood Candidates Poll Poorly
S.F. Chronicle reports: “When it comes to political candidates in California, to know them isn’t necessarily to love them. And that goes double for actors.”
Fortunately, this point is proving true for Rob “Meathead” Reiner and Warren “Bulworth” Beatty.
Democrats Rob Reiner and Warren Beatty, other actors mentioned as possible candidates for governor next November, are also getting thumbs down in the early reviews.
Reiner is known by two-thirds of the voters, but only 25 percent have a favorable view of Archie Bunker’s onetime foil, while 41 percent aren’t happy with him.
It’s even worse for Beatty, who was a visible and vocal opponent of Schwarzenegger during this month’s special election. While 64 percent of the voters may know him, they dislike him by a 3-to-1 ratio, 16 percent favorable to 48 percent unfavorable. Even worse, Beatty scores the negative trifecta, with Democratic, Republican and nonpartisan voters all against him.
“Beatty’s got an image problem that’s hard to deal with,” said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll.
Of 28 would-be candidates for statewide office next year, only six of them could be picked out of a verbal lineup by more than half the voters. Of those six, four have an image rating that’s more unfavorable than favorable.
Oh well.
Guess Beatty will just have to keep his job as a Hollywood activist.
