Hillary’s Slipping

That’s the word from a recent Daily Kos poll.

Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential poll numbers continue to slip with the Democratic Party’s left wing base, according to the latest online survey conducted by the Daily Kos web site.

The former first lady has now slid to fifth place among likely candidates, with Virginia Gov. Mark Warner leapfrogging past her into third place. She now ranks just above the Kos category “No Freakin’ Clue” among top Democrats who are expected to run.

In more bad news for Mrs. Clinton, her meager 6 percent support continues a downward trend that began over the summer, when she had 10 percent backing her candidacy. By September, however, she had slipped to 8 percent in the same poll.

I know that Hillary’s attempting to position herself as a centrist but her centrist views won’t help her win primaries, which are dominated by Kossack liberals. I’m not suggesting that she wouldn’t carry enough of the Kossack liberals to win enough primaries but I’d suggest that her courting of them will need to be more open and subject to scrutiny than she’d like. I don’t doubt for a minute that she’s a ‘true believer’ of Kossack viewpoints. Rather, I’d think that she’s trying to keep that fact secret because it’d affect how she’d win over the more moderate voters that she’ll need to win.

That’s why I’d incorporate a strategy to box her into the Looney Left’s positions if I were running a GOP presidential campaign. This also has the advantage of putting her on the defensive, something she hasn’t been on since entering elective politics. I’ve got a strong hunch that she wouldn’t respond well to getting challenged.

You just have to think that the revelation of Bill Richardson’s resumé padding (drafted by Kansas City Athletics) came from Hillary.
