A few more inconvenient facts that the CONservatives would not like you to know about:

1. George H.W. Bush has been working for the Carlyle group as a senior advisor since 1998.

2. The Carlyle group is heavily invested in the military/industrial/defense industry.

3. The Carlyle group has had a relationship with the Bin Laden family since the mid 1990’s.

4. The Bin laden family owns a very large construction concern in Saudi Arabia called the Saudi Bin Laden group, a $5 billion company (1999 dollars).

5. The Bin Ladens became investors in some of Carlyle’s funds, selling a company called Vinell in 1995 and investing in Carlyle, specifically:

6. a fund called Carlyle Partners II which is a very large defense oriented fund… up until just after September 11th when it became appallingly clear to everyone that the Bin Laden family, because they were invested in this defense fund, stood to gain financially from the war on terrorism which was being waged against their own brother, Osama.

So, while you all are busy fretting over a mere million that the Bin Ladins gave to Carter, it appears that they got their money from… yup… the US taxpayer, busying funding the Bush regime’s WOT to the tune of trillions of dollars! At least a drop in the bucket (or should I say barrel?) came back to benefit someone in the US, unless, of course, your last name is Bush.

Which, I think, also answers the question as to why we don’t just freeze all Bin Laden assets.

Hey, Howey, if stupid non-issues are what’s important to you, then more power to you. Some of the rest of us will worry about more pressing matters that aren’t being taken care of in DC while the R’s have all the power and authority. Unless you hadn’t noticed, Carter isn’t president and he’s not a power at the DNC. What I’d like is for people to harp on issues that once belonged to the R’s and no longer seem to except in the rank and file: fiscal conservatism, small government, foreign policy, ‘honor and dignity’ in the WH, that sort of thing. If you people want to fiddle while Rome burns, more power to you.
