Culture of Corruption, Democratic Style, Part III
In yet another example of how willing they are to break the law to win elections, the Missouri state Ethics Commission has handed out a couple fines:
Citing financial irregularities, the state Ethics Commission has handed out a small fine to U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan and a much larger one to the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee. The commission fined Carnahan $600 and the Democratic committee $104,000 for various campaign finance violations. The fine on the committee, which raises money for state House candidates, is among the largest ever levied by the commission.
The fine on Carnahan, who replaced Dick Gebhardt in the U.S. House, isn’t that big a deal. The $104,000 fine against the Demcoratic Campaign Committee, though, is alot more noteworthy.
The commission found that the committee during the 2002 elections failed to file proper financial reports and mixed money with another campaign committee.
Anytime that you read an article that said that funds were mingled, red flags should go up. That doesn’t prove wrongdoing but it’s a definite possibility.
