Sing-a-long: Cheney’s Got A Gun, And The Spin Has Just Begun
Thanks to Aerosmith and our reader M. Jones for the headline.
In today’s S.F. Chronicle, covering the Cheney story with a close(d) eye (of course), we find this “special” report:
If Vice President Dick Cheney had followed the protocols taught 12-year-olds in hunter education programs, he never would have shot his pal last weekend while quail hunting, according to hunting safety experts.
“That’s true,” said Il Ling New, the nation’s top female firearms instructor. “If they’re taught the right things at early ages, then it can become second nature to a kid that’s growing up.”
Well, there you have it. An “expert” opinion.
Except that the article entirely omits the other side of the story. For this, we turn to the AP:
Katharine Armstrong, owner of the ranch where the shooting occurred, said it happened toward the end of the hunt, when it was still sunny but as darkness was encroaching and they were preparing to go inside. She said Whittington made a mistake by not announcing that he had walked up to rejoin the hunting line, and Cheney didn’t see him as he tried to down a bird.
. . .Pamela Willeford, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland, another member of the hunting party, told The Dallas Morning News for a story in Tuesday’s editions that she and Cheney didn’t realize Whittington had picked up a bird and caught up with them. (Emphasis ours)
Willeford said she has hunted with Cheney before and would again.
“He’s a great shot. He’s very safety conscious. This is something that unfortunately was a bad accident and when you’re with a group like that, he’s safe or safer than all the rest of us,” she said.
As most hunters would know, you don’t walk in someone else’s line of fire without announcement. At the same time, Cheney probably accepts responsibility for the action — which is called: an accident.
It happens to the best of us. And others, too.
Except if you’re reporting with the Agenda Media, and then this story becomes something with which to further condemn the Administration . Even Hillary is getting into the act.
We’re only surprised that President Bush hasn’t been blamed in some form or fashion. Give it time. As Scott Ott jokes: for now, “the Bush administration is sticking with its initial ’single-shooter’ theory.”
Our SisterToldjah weighs in on the spin.

Gun control is vital in a modern society in my opinion. Maybe America needs cheeny control as well.:-)

Once you figure out gun control for the criminals (ie. assuring that they don’t possess any), then we’ll explore the matter further.
In the meantime, we’re still fighting the drug war — and y’see how well that’s working. Almost as well as Prohibition.

Do on to others as you would like others to do on to you. I don’t think an armed citizenery makes them safer. I think it in facts puts them in more danger. But that is a debate for another day.
we’re still fighting the drug war  and y’see how well that’s working. Almost as well as Prohibition.
Then you have the whole legisation arguement. and all the if’s and buts of that debate.
Anyway keep up the good work California Conservative always a good read.

Rush is saying that this whole incident may have saved Whittington’s life. He was going to have a heart attack anyway and having it in the hospital meant that he got treated immediately. In a way, he was lucky.
