By The Company He Keeps: Understanding Ward Churchill

Left-Wing Radical: Ward ChurchillAfter making primetime news earlier this year for his hateful comments comparing the victims of 9/11 to Nazis (”little Eichmanns”), leftist-radical professor Ward Churchill is still being received by certain audiences and public universities with open arms.

Recently, Churchill attended an Anarchist Book Fair in San Francisco (WARNING: some of these photos are graphic, and very disturbing), his second speaking engagement in the Bay Area.

After gathering with this affininity group, a couple days later he visited more like-minds on the predominantly liberal campus of U.C. Berkeley, lecturing “a largely sympathetic audience of more than 400 people.”

Fortunately, for the duty of reporting, a few right-minded individuals were also in attendance. Thanks to the students at CalPatriot, you can read actual transcipts of Churchill’s vitriol here, here and here. And thanks to ZombieTime, which chronicles the choas in San Francisco, you can also hear audio and see video footage of Churchill in action, comparing “all Americans to Nazis.” (These must be read, heard, and seen to be believed)

Earlier this week, speaking to a crowd of nearly 4,000 attendees at the University of Colorado, former NYC Mayor Rudy Guiliani had a few words to say about Churchill:

“If you don’t ask me, I’m going to tell you what I think. I know some of the people (Churchill) was talking about, and I know their families even better. Some of the only solace that they have is that their loved ones died a meaningful death. The comments he made were very very damaging and very hurtful…and very cruel.”

Giuliani said Churchill’s views were “horribly irresponsible” for a professor. He likened the situation to a geography instructor who teaches that the world is flat.

“He is entitled to that opinion,” he said. “But you don’t want him teaching geography.”

The criticisms and allegations against Ward Churchill continue to mount. He has been accused of plagiarism, historical fabrications (which was discussed on the O’Reilly Factor last night, speaking with Churchill’s attorney, David Lane), falsely claiming a Native American heritage to give credibility to his work and, on top of it all, art fraud.

Yet, Churchill remains defiant.

“I am going to win all of this, ya know, just strait down the line, the issues they have raised.

There is not an issue that they raised, or allegation that they raised, that I can not only rebut, but slam dunk, beginning with the identity issue. I can just go right down the list. This whole little attempt to backslide out of the free speech issue into academic integrity or academic misconduct issue is just going to make them look more stupid.”

Churchill said that the ordinary person has reacted very well to his personal appearances. When asked how people have felt about his controversial appearances he said he has been treated very well by people.

“Ya, ya, that’s why my response is on the controversy issue. There is no controversy: it is all contrived.”

From his ongoing remarks and behavior, we get the impression of what kind of man Ward Churchill really his. And, sadly, it also tells us something about the company he keeps.

UPDATE: (6/27) Michelle Malkin has the latest on W.C. here.

As Malkin points out, it appears Professor Churchill’s most recent rhetorical outrage seems to “suggest support for fragging –troops murdering their own on the battlefield–as an effective anti-war tactic.”

Trey Jackson has video.

In doing so, he’s another liberal moonbat example to make our case.

[...] In January 2005, Professor Ward Churchill became a figure of national revulsion* when his impending visit to Hamilton College was linked to an article claiming that the victims of 9/11 were “little Eichmanns” who deserved their fate. Churchill’s article produced an outcry of such force that it led to the removal of the faculty head of the host committee at Hamilton and the resignation of the president of the University of Colorado where he was Professor of Ethnic Studies and Department Chair. As a result of the uproar, Churchill himself was removed as head of the Ethnic Studies Department and university authorities began an investigation into how he had acquired his faculty position in the first place.
