British Terror Suspect Met and Respected Galloway

Galloway_Aziz.jpgOne of the terrorists arrested in London yesterday, Waheed Zaman, is a biochemistry student, which of course comes in handy when plotting with liquid bombs. But this is not Zaman’s only claim to fame. According to Zaman’s sister, he met with controversial British Member of Parliament George Galloway many times.

George Galloway is probably best known for his anti-war posturing and undignified criticism of PM Tony Blair and Pres. George W. Bush.  Galloway lobbied vigorously to overturn economic sanctions against Iraq and visited Saddam Hussein in 1994 and 2002.  During his 1994 meeting with Saddam "to try and bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war," Galloway ended his speech to Saddam:
"Sir:  I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability.  And I want you to know that we are with you, hatta al-nasr, hatta al-nasr, hatta al-Quds [until victory, until victory, until Jerusalem]."

Galloway, gushing over Saddam and lamenting the fall of Communist Soviet Union in the interview "Saddam and Me", described himself this way:
"I am on the anti-imperialist left.  If you are asking did I support the Soviet Union, yes I did. Yes, I did support the Soviet Union, and I think the disappearance of the Soviet Union is the biggest catastrophe of my life. If there was a Soviet Union today, we would not be having this conversation about plunging into a new war in the Middle East, and the US would not be rampaging around the globe."

In October 2003, Galloway was expelled from the Labour Party when it was ruled  that he had brought the party into disrepute by calling the war "Tony Blair’s lie machine" and saying "The best thing British troops can do is to refuse to obey illegal orders."

Back to suspected terrorist Waheed Zaman.  His sister said of him yesterday,

“He saw it as his duty to stand up for his community and that’s what led him to know George Galloway. He has a lot of respect for him and has met him many times.”

A spokesman for Galloway said: “Waheed Zaman is not a name that George is familiar with. He is not known to him on a personal level.”

Draw your own conclusions.

Interestingly enough as well. There was a vote about some aspect of the War on terror. George spoke out for weeks about it.

It was a devisive vote and the UK gov only won by 1 vote (the speakers casting vote. ) 2 people did not vote. 1 guy I think his wife had just died. The other George Galloway was on a lecture tour in Ireland.

    Gas guy really

Stupid Whine from a typical California Liberal Vet: Schottenheimer apologizes for remark about bullets
    Associated Press
SAN DIEGO - Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer has apologized for saying new starting quarterback Phillip Rivers will be tested “when the bullets start flying.”

Schottenheimer said Thursday his words were unfortunate while U.S. troops are in combat.

“I’ve often said if you stand in front of a microphone as many times as I do, you are invariably going to make a mistake and I made a mistake,” he said. “But the good thing about it is I will never forget that mistake.”

A retired Marine colonel had criticized Schottenheimer’s remarks in a letter to The San Diego Union-Tribune. “Football is not combat, it is a game,” he wrote.

The Chargers preseason game Saturday against the Green Bay Packers is labeled as a “Salute to the Military.” Earlier this year, the team worked out at Camp Pendleton, a Marine base north of San Diego.

The team will practice Friday on the USS Ronald Reagan, which is docked in San Diego Bay.

“The whole organization is exited about it, not just the players and coaches, Schottenheimer said.
