Bill Clinton Joins The Bush Bashing
Clinton launches withering attack on Bush on Iraq, Katrina, budget
So reads the latest headline off the wires.
AFP reports: “Former US president Bill Clinton sharply criticised George W. Bush for the Iraq War and the handling of Hurricane Katrina, and voiced alarm at the swelling US budget deficit.”
What a bastard. One question: Is Bill still on “tour” with President George H.W. Bush?
“Breaking with tradition under which US presidents mute criticisms of their successors, Clinton said the Bush administration had decided to invade Iraq “virtually alone and before UN inspections were completed, with no real urgency, no evidence that there were weapons of mass destruction.”
Breaking with tradition, indeed. No respect for tradition would be better said, starting with his time in office. No honor.
“Clinton said there had been a “heroic but so far unsuccessful” effort to put together an constitution that would be universally supported in Iraq.”
The test of time is far from over, and history will be the final judge. But, yet, Clinton is suggesting that it would better to do nothing? Nothing but politics.
By jumping into the blame game, Slick Willie is simply adding to the noise, doing some “advance work” for the DNC and Hillary’s anticipated run for the White House in ‘08.
“When James Lee Witt ran FEMA, because he had been both a local official and a federal official, he was always there early, and we always thought about that,” Clinton said, referring to FEMA’s head during his 1993-2001 presidency.
Don’t recall having a natural disaster of this proportion, so there’s no way to really measure or compare. And he knows that.
On Hurricane Katrina, Clinton faulted the authorities’ failure to evacuate New Orleans ahead of the storm’s strike on August 29.People with cars were able to heed the evacuation order, but many of those who were poor, disabled or elderly were left behind.
“If we really wanted to do it right, we would have had lots of buses lined up to take them out,” Clinton.
Really? That’s some valuable intelligence gathering. Better call New Orleans’ Mayor Ray Nagin…
Bill and Hillary Clinton are shameless, and will do anything for political gain. Even leveraging a national tragedy.

[...] Last week, we briefly explored the political strategy behind the “blame game” following Hurricane Katrina. Democrats recognize that perception becomes reality if a soundbite is repeated enough on the local 6 o’clock news. It appears to be working. A 52-year-old lawyer said he joined the protest because of her outrage at the federal government’s sluggish response to Hurricane Katrina. Faith Brewer said she thought the problem was exacerbated because too many resources were diverted to Iraq. [...]
