Amnesty’s Liberal Hyperbole: U.S. “Gulag”
AP reports: “Amnesty International castigated the U.S. prison camp in Guantanamo Bay as a failure Wednesday, calling it ‘the gulag of our time’ in the human rights group’s harshest rebuke yet of American detention policies.”
Did Stalin offer a sanitary cell, clean clothes, three square meals a day, time for prayer and sports? Nyet.
Strange, but we don’t recall reading such publicized outrage from Amnesty criticizing Saddam Hussein’s well-known torture chambers and rape rooms.
UPDATE: (6/1) The Jawa Report examines the real history behind the gulags: “The Gulag Archipelego vs. Amnesty International’s ‘Gulags,’” an in-depth report by Dr. Rusty Shackleford.
