A Liberal Who Gets It
Just when you thought you’d seen the last liberal who gets it when it comes to terrorism, Ed Koch pops up with another column proving that some liberals still get it.
The war now raging in Lebanon should not surprise anyone. For many years, Hezbollah, which is funded, equipped and ideologically supported by Iran and Syria, has made it crystal clear that its goal is to conquer Israel, expel its Jewish inhabitants, and place the entire land under Islamic rule. Hezbollah engages in terrorism, the deliberate targeting of Jewish civilians and others, to achieve its goals.
That’s as clear a world view as I’ve seen lately. It’s good to know that some liberals still understand that Hezbollah is still a force of evil in this world. Mayor Koch goes onto say something even more unusual coming from a liberal:
I have no doubt, however, that if it were not for the support of the United States, led by President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, many European states would be even more active in trying to snatch victory from the hands of the Israeli Defense Forces. The position of the United States has been clear from the start of hostilities: a sustainable ceasefire.
Exactly, Mayor Koch. There’s a reason why Israelis consider George W. Bush the best presidential friend to Israel in history, surpassing even Reagan. If that comment didn’t drive liberals crazy (a relatively short drive, by the way), this next statement will push them there:
According to The New York Times, President Bush made the U.S. position clear, “Speaking to reporters from his ranch in Crawford, TX, President Bush called for the resolution’s speedy adoption, but made clear that the main sticking point, Lebanese insistence that the draft be altered to require Israel to withdraw troops immediately, was nonnegotiable.”
Mayor Koch concludes in strong fashion with a paragraph that’s sure to have liberals going stark-raving mad:
In my judgment, when history evaluates George W. Bush’s position in the pantheon of presidents, he will be compared with Harry S. Truman. Bush’s fortitude in recognizing the danger of Islamic fundamentalism to the U.S. and, indeed, the Western world, and his awareness of the need to win this war of civilizations is remarkable. He deserves the applause of all Americans and in time he will receive it.
I’d like to thank Mayor Koch for those insightful words. When history writes of him, I suspect that they’ll say that he was one of the staunchest mayoral allies of Israel.

I’m happy happy joy joy over Koch’s comments but Liberals have been saying this for decades. Liberals warned of the impending threat when Ronald Reagan emboldened Hezbollah buy illegally supplying them with military weapons through Iran when they kidnapped and held hostage a few Americans. Once Hezbollah got what they wanted, the Lebanese media released all the details of the illegal arms deal which would become known as the Iran/Contra Affair. Now Hezbollah is no longer a terrorist group but a recognizable militant party with a formidable army. Thanks Ronny!!!
Liberals warned of the “Shia Crescent” that Iran swore they would obtain shortly after their revolution. This “crescent” would create the most powerful force in history. Only one thing stood in the way of this nightmare becoming a reality…Saddam Hussein! Now recently the Iraqi people have voted for a Shia dominated, Iran supporting, Hezbollah sympathizing government who’s leader claimed that all violence in the Middle East is “caused by Jews and the sons of Jews” and proceeded to call for Israel to be “pushed into the sea!” A public press conference a few days prior to his visit to Washington. The leader the Neo-conservatives wanted, their “golden boy” Chalibi is currently under federal investigation for being an Iranian spy. Goes to show how much of a waste of space the Neo-cons are huh?
And Liberals seem to be the only ones who conveniently (or inconveniently) remember that most of the hijackers on the morning of 9/11 came from Saudi Arabia that has done little to absolutely nothing to aid in the war on terror. We’d like to hold their hands on the lawn of the White House rght before shipping them to Gitmo for some good old fashioned info diggin!!! Can’t do that though because the New York Times is SO MUCH more important.
And Liberals seemed to be the only ones paying attention to the recent intelligence reports that shows that the Kashmiri fundamentalists (can’t call them Al Qaeda because that might look bad) that committed the Mumbai subway bombings were supported and possibly financed by Pakistan (you know…the country everybody seems to think Bin Laden is able to live…..comfortably). So lets fight the war on terror by selling a terrorist sponsoring nation a fleet of F-16s. A totalitarian nation ruled by a militant dictator who hides and supports terrorists doesn’t need democracy anyways. We’ll sell that to Iraq instead. Liberals have always gotten it. Nice to see you finally caught up.
